Basecamp crashing on Big Sur

I'm finding that intermittently Basecamp crashes when I'm trying to create a route. This happens if I select multiple waypoints, right-click, and select "create route". It also occurs if I have a route and try to add a waypoint by clicking and dragging into the route. It doesn't seem to happen all the time and I'm not finding anything consistent. It is happening on both my iMac and my MacBook Pro. :|

Here's the details of my setup.

Basecamp version 4.8.11

iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017)
Processor 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7
Memory 16GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Graphics Radeon Pro 555 2GB
macOS Big Sur version 11.4

MacBook Pro (12-inch, 2019, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)
Processor 1.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
Memory 8GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3
Graphics Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645 1536 MB
macOS Big Sur version 11.4

I know this may sound counterintuitive but many of my Base Camp routing problems simply vanished when I learned this:

Do not use Base Camp to create a route.

On a PC, what I do is 1) pick the NEW ROUTE tool, 2) pick my start point, 3) pick my end point, 4)escape key to let Base Camp create the route. Then, using the editing tools (INSERT, MOVE and ERASE), I shape the route the way I want it to go. I've tried the "drag the route" thing but I learned using tools so it's hard for me to change.
