Zumo 665 Powers Up during Update

Post by Tom Larkin XCT »

My Zumo 665 intermittently powers itself up during a map update and, consequently, freezes the update process. I then have to power it down, disconnect from my laptop and then reconnect and start the process over. This has happened three times today and has happened during previous updates. So far, I have been able to complete updates after several attempts.

Does anyone know why this might be happening?

Thanks;
Tom

I don't own a 665, so someone will correct me if it works in a different way than I think.

Do you have a different USB data cable that you can try? On my 550, the GPS will start a power up sequence as soon as the USB cord is disconnected. If your cable has a bad wire or flakey connection, the GPS might be acting as though it was disconnected. Just a guess...

Worth a try. I'm not sure I want to do this any time soon as my map update finally completed with this problem popping up. Thanks!

You could always just connect the GPS to the PC which will put it in mass storage mode. Then just wiggle the data cord and the connections while watching the GPS to see if it switches out. If it does, you found the problem. If it doesn't, proves nothing.
