Released about June last year, I have one on my KTM road bike. Solid well made piece of kit, if somewhat large!
There is no way an XT will jump off that thing.

Had mine since September. It's very secure and also solved an occassional loss of power on our third world quality roads in the UK (and that's an insult to the third world.)

I had not seen it available in the USA until I saw this video posted, but maybe it was and I missed it.

Could the unit be used inverted e.g. with the lock positioned at bottom left rather the top right of the mount

What are you hoping to achieve by mounting it that way? The unit is pretty uniform on both sides top & bottom. The only difference that I can see on mine is, that on the bottom face there is a small cut out to mount a cable tie to secure the power lead to.
In closing, I think the unit will function perfectly mounted upside down.

I don't think it would work upside-down as the Zumo mount locks the release leaver on the Garmin Mount.
