Fodsports FX8

I am interetsed in the Fodsports FX8 Bluetooth set. My friend from whom I got it warned me to be careful as Garmin is "fussy" about which bluetooth devices mate up to this unit and Garmin in general. Garmin sort of was loosey-goosey and said basically any bluetooth should work.
Is anyone using a Fodsports FX8 with a Zumo 660LM? I will only use it with the helmet speakers and do not plan to install the micrphone. I don't listen to radio, music or any other garbage while riding. I only want to hear the audio direx from the Zumo. Would leaving the microphone unplugged have any negative effect on the interplay?
