Could you share a bit more about your process? Are you importing a track to the zumo and then converting to a route (a.k.a. trip) on the zumo?
Do you have waypoints that go with the track?
What is the origin of the track - e.g. generated from a route, given to you by someone else, ... ?
Are you starting with the track on a computer or somewhere else? Are you transferring to the zumo via USB cable, sd card, or phone?

Further, @FrankB and I have recently been collaborating to make an improved version of a track to route converter available from Trip Manager. It is not quite done yet. More on that will follow soon.

The export from Kurviger seems to be much improved, but it still creates a gpx file, which Tread will likely alter, or which the Zumo import process will likely alter.

If you use the convert track to route option there are still a number of issues when the XTs receive it.

* No route points
* If recalculation occurs the Zumo finds the quickest way to the end. - this may also happen if recalculation is not allowed**
* This type of route may have issues with figure 8s or long thin loops. Best to have an out route and a back route.
* These routes converted from tracks can still display RUT behaviour.

Having said that, a well formed track - especially if plotted using Garmin maps - can be quite successful when converted to a route or trip.
In my testing, I have never had one behave perfectly - probably because I try to provoke failure, to find out how to deal with it.
Many people use tracks converted to trips / routes and claim not to have issues.

My favourite solution for XT2 is to create routes in Basecamp, create a gpx file, including route, track and saved waypoints, send it to the XT2 use Trip Manager to create the .trip file, display the route and the track together.
Do not allow the XT2 and Tread app to synch.


** Sometimes the Zumo XTs will recalculate anyway regardless of settings. Eg Road closures and on import.

Hi Vigo,

TripManager can not, and probably never will be able to, convert a track to trip. So if you prefer to use a track converted to a trip, because the XT2 will not change that, then TripManager is of less use.
You can still use TripManager to transfer the tracks to the XT2, on the XT2 convert them to trips, and view the converted trips, on your PC screen. If you have a lot of tracks to transfer I think that will be faster than the sync via Explore/Tread, for 1 track probably not.
There are IMHO a few problems with converted tracks. 1) You lose all your Via points, so not available to restart the route. You must rely on CEP (Dichtsbijzijnde Invoer punt) to restart a route, and that does not always work as expected. 2) If you have to deviate from the route, because of a road block for example, the XT2 will not recalcalute an alternative to the next route point, but very likely instruct you to make a U-Turn (maak een U bocht)
My personal favourite is a route with route points (Via and Shaping) to drive, and a track created from that route visible on the map so you can visually check the recalculated route on the unit. This is the method where TripManager is most suited for. You can export in Kurviger both a route and a track, so you dont have to use BaseCamp.

What @smfollen probably was referring to is an option to create a route from a track that he is working on, and I would like to incorporate in TripManager

If you mean 'things to look out for'. Not that I'm aware of. There is one difference, that is only applicable to the XT. When you send a complete list, it allows to have the trips grouped in the Trip Planner.

I think it saves you some time, and hopefully some errors. Consider a 4 day trip. I create a list for that in BC with some waypoints and a route for every day. Some times I have 2 or 3 options for one day. So lets say 4 - 8 routes in total and usually the only Waypoints are the hotels.

- I export it to Windows.
- Boot up the XT. Remove ALL tracks/trips and Waypoints.
- 'Send to' in TM. Tick Trips,Track and Waypoints. Trips forced to recalculate, Tracks are created automatically, Waypoints are stored as is.

Now let's say one Hotel is full and I have to find another. Chances are that you have to change multiple routes. When done changing in BC I clean the XT and transfer the complete list again. That way I'm sure all the changes made in BC make it to the XT.

Note that a 'clean XT' boots up much faster.

After approximately. 20 years using my faithful Zumo 550 it is finally dying. It did everything I needed and it was relatively simple to use. Plan my trip in Base Camp, send it to the 550 and done! Same with GPX files shared with me. Simple.

I purchased a Zumo XT2 without researching based on the good and ease of use I'd had from the 550 and expecting the XT2 would be a vast improvement over the 20 yro 550.

What a shock when trying to use the XT2! What a piece of junk! Anyway I'm stuck with it now and need to learn to work with it. I'm not a power user by any stretch but managed ok with Base Camp and the 550.

I have used open source maps previously as the Garmin maps always seemed so out of date compared with the NZ Open GPS Project maps. Like Google Maps will find addresses that are not yet in Apple Maps. With the Garmin maps installed on the XT2 they too were not as upto date as the NZ Open GPS on the 550.

After numerous attempts and resets to get the NZ Open GPS maps onto the XT2 trying via Base Camp, micro SD card and dropping the files directly into the XT2 I finally got the NZ Open GPS into it.

Getting my existing routes and favourites off the 550 into the XT2 via Base Camp worked fine. However some day rides which were one route in the 550 got divided into 2 or 3 on the XT2. Others won't open and some freeze at 80% calculated. And some work as expected. Some routes sent via email and imported into Tread worked and some didn't. All in all it's been an expensive purchase resulting in a great deal of disappointment and frustration.

I've read this thread from end to end as well as viewtopic.php?p=25945#p25945 Zumo XT2 - Making it work for you. Excellent resources and I thank the authors and contributors for the amount of time and effort put into trying to make sense of this piece of sh#t Garmin have foisted upon us. I think I'm beginning to get my head around the XT2 and now need to try using it following the suggestions.

I do have a couple of questions before I push ahead.

* In this post you refer to cleaning the XT. Do you mean by that deleting previous routes and waypoints etc? Is that deleting on the XT2 or on the PC TripManager. One-off routes I've deleted in the past but those I'd like to ride again or ride frequently I have kept on the 550 along with a number of favourites locations. These I have loaded into the XT. Should I not have done so and only have currently required routes loaded.
* As I don't use the Garmin maps (City Navigator) am I better removing them from the XT2 so there's no chance of any maps conflict with the NZ Open GPS Project maps. If so which do I delete and how? My Maps lists: Australia & New Zealand DEM, NZ Adventure Roads and Trails 2026.10, TopoActive PS Lite Aus/NZ 2026.10, CN Aus & NZ NT 2027.10 - HERE ALL, CN Aus & NZ NT 2027.10 - HERE POIs. Or should I stick with the Garmin maps. Note - I had issues with routes or addresses not calculating and stopping at 80%, splitting from one route into three, and not opening before I loaded the NZ Open GPS.

I mean the Zumo XT(2). I keep the history/archive/library on my PC

Dont delete CN from your device. It has plenty of room, and will never bother you. If you dont want them visible, uncheck (untick) them in 'MyMaps'.
I also use OpenStreetMap maps. They go on my SD CARD. (If you have an SD Card 32GB or larger dont format them using the normal Windows Explorer way, but use a 3rd party tool like Rufus. Or insert the SD Card while the Zumo is powered on)

This is what very likely happened. The 550 had no notion of Via and Shaping Points. So you never had the problem with the 550. The XT(2) has, but the nr in a route is limited.
In Basecamp a point in a route can be set to 'Alert on arrival = Via', or 'Dont Alert on arrival = Shaping point'

When a XT(2) receives a route above a certain nr. of Via Points (Alert on arrival) it will split it up. Dont know the exact figure, but is something like 30. The resolution is to set the points to 'Dont alert' in BaseCamp and send again.

My procedure is that I allways export track and route to XT2.
I converts track to trip/route in the XT2. no waypoints or shaping point in track.
I prefer driving tracks, the route is used as a reserve / standbye. I've never used a route so far.
When the source is a trip/route , recalculate in BC(drive rijden) , convert to track. export same way as before.
When the source is track, convert to trip/route in BC, recalculate it, create track and export it as before.
When restart is needed ( route from track with XT2) I navigate to closest entry point, failure to do so > navigate to the End. (must be on track)
Transfer is from PC / BC over USB to Xt2
Export selected to the memory of the XT2
The "track navi" failed me a few times, especially when the track comes close together like e.g. crossings. Splitting up to multiple tracks helps.

With other words : when not touched in Tread is there any changes it might interfere anyway with track or trip?
Ik like Tread for camera's and traffic info esp. when navigating "regular"

The trip from route, converted in XT2, is saved in XT2, so RUT is prevented ?
