Bye.
Ah - now there is a question.

Are you sitting comfortably.....Then I'll begin

First of all - The XT2 has started calling these pre-saved points "Waypoints" rather than the rather vague 'Saved' or 'Favourites'. 'Waypoints' is the correct name.

They are stand alone locations which you can display on the map.
From the Zumo 590 onwards, a waypoint could be used as part of a route and it could be set as either a Via Point or a Shaping Point.

In fact the waypoint was not part of the route. There were two entries in the GPX file. The Waypoint which was set at aparticualr location and the shaping or via point that was part of the route. This was set at exactly the same location. So it gave the impression that the Waypoint was actually part of the route.

There was some linkage between them, because as well as adopting the same coordinates as the Waypoint, the route point (via or shaping) would also pinch the Waypoint's name. Which was really very handy - because the XT1 would never move or change the name of a route point that had been used in a route.

That changes with the XT2. The waypoint at first seems to be set as part of the route. But the routing software doesn't treat them as being joined together at the hip. If you use a Waypoint as part of a route - then it creates your via or shaping in exactly the same location. But then the XT2 or the synchronisation process is in the habit of shifting the points slightly. And they leave the waypoint alone. So now, the Via Point (lets assume that the waypoint was set as a Via when the route was created) is in a different location from the original Waypoint.

And that means that the route no longer passes through the Waypoint !!! You can see the waypoint symbol on the map and if you zoom in, the Vai point flag is not in exaclty the same place.

This may not make much difference to the route - they may be close enough - but I use Waypoints to place a location that I know is not going to be altered - at the place where I want to park the bike - not on the main road. The XT2 will probably not get me to that location, although I will be able to see it on the map.

I'd love to get my hands on whatever it is that the development team drink. I'd have not a care in the world.

But I believe that a route made entirely of Via Points will behave in a much more satisfactory way than a route that contains shaping points. I think that is the way that @Oop North John uses his XT2. For me and my pillion, that method - although pretty reliable - doesn't work. We like the trip planner to show the distance and time to the next stop / via. Other considerations come into play when you start getting older - and we started that journey a while ago now !!

2.11.26
2.11.27

It's also been released. Still no information from Garmin. We're still experiencing the "sync error." It seems to sync well, but the software is failing (on both iOS and Android).

Just been building some routes in Tread and it seems to not allow changes to waypoints or routing type once it's been constructed.

Edit - just restarted the phone and the activity eg fastest / shortest seems to be now available, but waypoint deletion is not, and I can't select a portion between waypoints to insert another waypoint.

I've just updated my ipad to v 2.11.27 and I can select segment and change its routing pref,
reorder via points
rename a stop / via
Change via to shaping

etc
There doesn't seem to be any change in behaviour

An existing route, but changing a via to a shaping does not move the shaping onto a nearby faster road.
But that happened the other day when I tested 2.22.26 - and I reported it on here. Well pleased. then I tried it again after a restart and it was up to its old tricks. So I deleted the post.

I reserve judgement.

And this morning, without showing any update in Tread, I can now delete waypoints from a route again :)

As @Oop North John said in the other post...

I hope they fixed the controller and headphone connection issues. They were very annoying.

They've finally fixed the remote zoom issue. Now it works perfectly with all features.

Could someone confirm if the personal POIs (speed cameras, lighthouses, castles, etc.) that I've added are now only audible? I go into the lists and the image isn't visible. Speed cameras pop up (I can hear them) but they're not visible on the map.

2 steps forward and 1 step back...

I have a test tour guide set up each with its own sound file and each with its own picture and icon.

I've just update the system software to v6.10 and loaded up the POI.

The pictures are showing up at the right of the screen, the correct sound file is playing at the right distance, but at present, none of the points are showing up on the screen. They used to, (3 days ago on the XT2) and up ahead places is selected.

Regarding the sound - Settings->Driver Assistance->Proximity Alerts->Audio / Alerts / Tour Guide (my collection of POIs)
In alerts, you can turn on or off the alert sound for your Custom POIs.

Just got to find where my points have disappeared to. Not for tonight.

They've changed some of these Garmin POIs in the latest 6.10 update, and the custom POI images aren't showing. We'll have to wait for the next version of the XT2.

I received a reply from Garmin customer service today. The POI issue is under investigation, but they can't give a timeframe for when it will be fixed. We'll have to wait, hopefully not for too long.
