No idea sorry, but I've never found it an issue.

4 TB external hard drive:
Already plugged in, from power-on to PC beep and appearance in File Explorer: 1 to 2 seconds
(Stopwatch finger too slow to be more precise)

8 GB flash drive:
Plugged in to PC beep: 2 seconds
Plugged in to appearance in File Explorer: 3 seconds

Press Continue to PC beep: 10 seconds.
Continue to appearance in Windows File Explorer: 17 seconds.
Continue to appearance in Basecamp: 24 seconds.

Garmin USB ports never have been fast or up to date, else we would use USB-C instead of mini-USB.

I have two 590s both upgraded to 595 firmware, both with identical contents. One has half the RAM that the other has. It is recognised by the PC in about half the time that the other one takes. (I wouldn't describe either as fast though.)

I too cannot access the 2026.20 map on Basecamp.
I have to have the Zumo connected.
My laptop recognises the Zumo relatively quickly, but why is the 2026.20 map not being installed in Basecamp?

Once you have installed the map on the Zumo, then you can run Express again,
click Map Details
Click Map Options
and there is now an extra option - Install to Computer. Accept the default location and make sure that BAsecamp is not running before you click Install to Computer.
