Tks much for this. I'll try to reply to each point
"You have a phone app for the Spirit which allows you to update software. For that to happen, the phone needs to be paired to the Spirit."
I don't use the phone app to update the Spirit firmware. I connect the Spirit to my desktop PC via USB and update it that way.
"XT2 set as a phone - because logically that is what it is. You have paired the XT2 to the phone so the XT2 handles all of the phone functions. Address Book, messages, speech out, sound in, call log, etc etc. It is probably more to do with priority than it is to do with connections - but that's what I have always done and it works well."
I don't have the XT paired to my phone at all. I keep the phone turned off when I have the XT and the Spirit paired and talking to each other. I mistakenly thought that a pairing between the XT and my phone could be causing the issue, so I simply turned the phone off. The phone is not listed as a device on the XT.
"There are a three interesting options for the Spirit. These are shown in the top of the table on Page 16.
One is related to increasing volume as the external noise (wind) increases. This means that sitting at your desk the headset will not be at full volume. It will increase only when it gets other noises. Like if you scratch the mic with your finger."
I've played with those, too. The wording on them is very confusing, so I called Garmin support. That was a huge error on my part! The Garmin tech started talking about settings that I could not see in the manual. He admitted to me that it was likely that his "screens" were out of date and did not reflect the manual or the latest firmware settings. I was not surprised that his screens did not mirror the manual, as the manual is wrong in some areas and clearly has not been updated as the firmware changes. I figured that his screens would show the most up to date features and settings. I was wrong! Garmin at its best again.
At any rate, I played with those settings and really did not see much difference in how the volume reacted to wind and peripheral noise, unless I turned it off completely. With it turned on, moving the sliders did not seem to do much.
For now, I'm good. Since I removed the ear buds from the list of attached headsets, the volume through the stock Spirit speakers is acceptable.I am certainly open to any and all advice and conclusions that you come to though.

Do you mean that you called Garmin Support ? Or Cardo Support ? Those three settings are listed in the Cardo manual.gwilki wrote: Wed Oct 01, 2025 1:27 pm

Sorry. Mixed again. I called Cardo support. Nice guy, but of no help since his information was outdated. So, between us, we could not do much. The manual is wrong in other areas, so I could not be sure that it was not wrong about this, too. He said that his "screens" were likely not up to date. I thanked him and gave up until I came upon the solution myself, which was to delete the ear buds.
