Sometimes mine doesn't show fully charged but it is!

Press and hold the battery icon for around 5 - 10 seconds and a screen will open with a lot of info on and when plugged in it will tell you if its charged or charging
Is there any way to get out of that mode besides power-cycling the device?
I have, if you press the exit button at bottom, it will exit that mode, but it takes a few seconds, and then it reboots so I'm guessing it is similar in action, but at least you're not forcing it out of that mode.

Incidentally guys, when it's charging it shows slightly different info to that when it's on battery:
Charging: shows charge current,
Pull the charge lead out and it will show battery voltages and percentage battery (without percent symbol)

That's weird, because when I first got the unit, those three buttons on the bottom were all tan in colour with the words visible in white, now they are permanently white!

I wonder if a software update has changed it!

@Stu, I updated software as soon as I got the machine and not since. Unless of course, it can do it's own updating without my knowing...

Hi There,
Firstly thanks to this forum. It led to me sorting my new Garmin Zumo XT battery charge issue.

I pressed the battery icon for a few seconds and came to the battery screen as was mentioned a few times. "Batt Current" was not showing anything of significance.

I then found this YouTube video:
TITLE: Power & use your Garmin GPS From a USB Port or Battery Bank without it going to PC Sync Mode

As per the video I cut the insulation off the center of a spare mini USB cable and bridged the green and white cables (as instructed in the video) and tested it on something i didn't care much about...it charged, so I then plugged it into the XT and the unit went straight to normal charging with full brightness, similar to when its on the bike.

Now "Batt Current" is ranging between 200-270mA and the battery is charging. So bridging these 2 green and white cables done the job (at least on the cable i used)....Just make sure to check it with something you don't care about, before you plug it into the garmin....in case the wiring is different in your particular cable (normally standard, but just in case)

Please beware that most USB chargers dont provide enough power/volts for fast charging. If you have the XT mounted on the bike with the original cable it gets charged with more than 5 Volts. That is the fastest charging i know. About 1 hour of driving.

Look for 'Developer Info: Power Source' and compare 'Ext Volts' and Batt Volts
Voltage when mounted on the bike:

Voltage when connected to USB charger

Note: Batt Volts > 4250 mV I consider it fully charged
