New guy from Northern California

Post by JD Hog »

Hi, I just found this forum and think it's great to have a dedicated Zumo forum. I have been using a Zumo 660 for a long time now and just ordered a new Zumo 595. I hope to get a lot of good information about it here.

Hi and welcome to the forum

It may seem a bit bare at the moment as we haven't been up and running that long but we have a wealth of knowledge in the members ;)

Welcome to Zumo User Forums JD. :)
Did the 660 give up or did you just fancy an upgrade?

Thanks!
The 660 is still going but it takes 2.75 minutes to boot up the map now. Seems to be slower than when it was new. I will most likely sell it if I can.

I have always wanted the top of the line for the Garmin Zumo and this one was a good deal at under 760.00 with two tire pressure monitors included and no sales tax.

Welcome JD.

I have a 660 and it took a long time to boot with lots of mp3 files on the microSD. If I removed the card it booted fast. I can't remove the card now since the maps are now on it. But I'm sure the boot would be faster if I deleted my music.

That is a good deal on your upgrade. I'm sure others on this forum will be helpful if you have questions with your new 595.

No more than 20 mp3 files in one folder will significantly speed up booting.
My suggestion:
SD:mp3\00\[20 mp3 files]
SD:mp3\01\[20 mp3 files]

SD:mp3\99\[20 mp3 files]

Thanks Dave726, you are absolutely correct and your knowledge will no doubt help others. However, I have mine with less than 20 per folder but it still takes time. I think it is because I have some album art messed up and may also have a corrupt mp3 or two. These files/folders have been moved, modified, copied, etc over the years and I am just too lazy to try and find the issue. The good thing is mine don't take 2 to 3 minutes. It is more like 45 sec to a minute, so not worth the effort to me. I just turn on my unit and then get ready to ride (gloves and Helmet) and when I pull out the unit is typically ready.
