I'm going on a 13 day trip so I have 13 routes to import. From BC I highlighted all 13 and sent them to the zumo device. From BC I watched the import progress in the Devices section. Everything completed with the green progress bar. Performed a soft eject of the zumo from BC. So far, so good.
Turned on zumo. Receive import-prompt and clicked yes. 5 of 13 routes failed with the message "Cannot calculate the route." Started Garmin Express and updated all the software on BC and zumo. Tried import again with same results. Using the following Windows path:
Computer\zūmo XT\Internal Storage\GPX
I deleted the following:
- temp.gpx
- CurrentTrackLog.gpx
- Current.gpx
Imported the 13 files again with the same results--5 failures. Same routes as before. I was considering resetting the device until I read that the reset does not touch the routes. I'm fine with erasing the routes. I'll do anything to fix this problem. Attached are the route properties of one of the 5 files. I don't see anything abnormal with the contents.
Does anyone know what I need to do to successfully import these misbehaving routes?
I thank you in advance for your assistance.
Cannot Calculate the Route
Re: Cannot Calculate the Route
If the others are like this one then I'm not surprised they won't import as Garmin routes in general are limited to only 30 viapoints though you can have many more shaping points. I haven't specifically seen anything on the XT route limitations but my guess is that is the issue.
Re: Cannot Calculate the Route
I was hoping you were still out there offering your sage advice sussamb. I always appreciate your feedback.
I have added an attachment to cross-reference via point quantity with import success/failure.
I thank anyone in advance for your assistance.

Novice using the zumo XT.
Re: Cannot Calculate the Route
Well routes fail due to complexity and length but I know of no method to pre-determine whether they'll import or not. I'd look at splitting those that have failed into 2, or reduce the viapoints, until they will import. Changing many of the viapoints to shaping points should also work.
Re: Cannot Calculate the Route
Hi there.
First post to this forum, which I joined following frustration with a persistent "Cannot Calculate The Route" error with my XT. But I think I figured out the issue so this is more of an FYI; I did find some references to this cause when I checked some of the reference material, but not in this particular thread.
It's to do with maps that are inconsistent between BaseCamp and the XT - into which I've been importing tracks & routes, and sending them to the XT. I plotted a ridiculously short route of 858 metres from my garage door down the the road, then found on recalculating it that the result was completely mad, because one of two identically-named maps installed in the XT (City Navigator Europe NTU 2027.1) had a lot of detail missing including, er, the road that runs past my garage.
So the fix is only ever to create or import routes/tracks/.gpx files in BaseCamp with the XT connected and visible, and a map with a similar (but not identical) name selected, to at least one enabled in the XT. I've uninstalled the map installed on my PC as it chewed up so much (~7Gb) of my sparse C: drive space. I have tried Garmin's recommended method of using my Garmin Explore account to import and send routes/.gpx but the problem persisted.
Finally, I realise that I've resurrected a very old thread but it does seem like the right one, and this error only became persistent after a recent update to the maps &/or soft/firmware via Garmin Express. Happy to answer any more questions if you think I could help.

Re: Cannot Calculate the Route
Quick addition to my previous post: the XT throws the dreaded CCTR error with any Track, and with any Route or Track created or modified since last year’s update. And once the CCTR error has occurred, it occurs with any navigation attempt such as to my Home, when sitting outside my Home. The only way to get rid of it is a reset (long press to switch off completely, then on again).
