Straight Lines on a 450/550 Route

Post by MSTOCK27370 »

I just updated my maps on my devices (450.550.590) and I am working on the issue of getting a good Route loaded on a 450/550 Zumo.

I thought I had it worked out. Created a route from scratch on MapSource and loaded it to the 450. Initially looked great. All of the shaping points came over without announcement, which is what I wanted (I'll post more about that once this gets resolved. The route executes okay, except that in several spots on the route, there are random straight lines that appear to be coming or going to several turns on the route. The turn by turn directions don't appear to be affected by this, it is just a visual mess on the 450 screen.

There are two images here, for the same intersection on the route. One from the MapSource screen, the other from the Zumo. You should see that the route on MapSource is clean, but the straight lines are on the Zumo, along with the correct line for the route. Does anyone know why this happens or what magic is required to eliminate it?

I have had something like this happen when a new map is added and I try to use an old trip stored on the GPS. I fixed it by recalculating all old saved trips on Base Camp and reloading back to the GPS.

Thank you Jim. That was the process I have gone through already. The new map, 2021.20 was loaded to my PC and then to each of my devices. These straight lines appeared on both my 450 and 550 after the newly recalculated routes were loaded. I spent some time with Garmin support on a Chat Session this afternoon. Although the effort was there, they essentially said that there was either a problem with the installed map or with the GPS. Since the product (450/550) was discontinued. there were no other software fixes to offer.

I believe that I have uncovered a fix for this, but I want to verify this by riding the route, not just in the preview screen of the GPS. If I am correct, then I will prepare a detailed explanation of the solution to routing for a 450 or 550, using MapSource, and correcting the route if these straight lines appear. However, in spite of having a solution, I still don't have any explanation for WHY these straight lines appear on the route in the GPS.

I ran the problem route today and the execution was great. Still no idea WHY the straight lines appeared, but you can eliminate them. I posted a new topic with my results.
