Tether for the 590

Post by MSTOCK27370 »

My 590 is mounted in the Garmin motorcycle mount. Is anyone using any kind of tether on their 590 to the bike so that if the mount loses its grip on the 590 it doesn't just drop to the roadway at speed? I know that lockable mounts are available $$$, just wondering if this is even an issue. Not covering the topic of theft prevention, just accidental releases.

This is on an XT, but has been the go-to approach for tethering for some time now:

Simply take a zip tie anchor and stick it on the back, then fashion a loop that is long enough to go over and around the mounting plate. If the zumo becomes dismounted it should simply dangle until you can come to its rescue.

I know the anchors are available at ACE Hardware; they are probably in Lowes and Home Depot as well.

ETA - I have tried six times to get the photo oriented correctly. It insists on being upside down. So be it.

Thanks for that suggestion. The 590 only has a hook (the handle for the battery door) on one side of the rear. The other side has the mini USB connection with a rubber cover that gets opened with your finger. It lays flat when closed. But I'll look at the rear to see if any other option pops up.

I would use the clip on the battery door it seems pretty solid

Although 5 years with my 590 with no issues of it coming out the mount

Thanks. That is the kind of feedback I was hoping to get.
