So when mounted on my Gs1250 this happens
But not every time
Seems to be if XT is powered up with bike off and then started
If XT is off and bike ignition switched on the XT powers up and screen stays bright
It can dim when riding then I have to stop switch bike off and manually switch XT off and the restart the bike
Even with dim screen route directions still work via Cardo as normal
I’m going to check bike wiring loom connectors in case but is this dimming another XT quirk??

Re: XT screen goes dim
Not that I know of, except when on battery as a power-saving feature. I have never experienced my XT dimming while powered during riding.JackyDaniels wrote: Sun May 24, 2026 11:01 am I’m going to check bike wiring loom connectors in case but is this dimming another XT quirk??
What you describe sounds like the XT gets enough power on bike startup to recognize it and startup, but not enough to prevent it from a power-saving dim. I am sure some will be along to offer advice on how to check voltage at the mounting pins.
Do you know of you have the old or new style mount or of the foam weatherstripping trick to improve contact with the pins?

Re: XT screen goes dim
well ive had a good look at the cable, which connects into a dedicated socket on the bike wiring loom.
There is a small plastic box which the cable goes into (its coax from the gps plug behind the mount and normal 2 wire cable out of this box)
this box seems to have lost what I guess is the cover on one side so the internals are open to the elements!
Ive ordered a new cable to see if that solves the issue.
The pins that the xt connects to the mount have alasy struck me as being a weak point but close exam they look ok, clean and no corrosion, Im hoping it just the open box issue thats causing this quirkiness!

Re: XT screen goes dim
just had a look at the thread you gave link for, this sounds very similar to the issue Ive been having, or a variation on it!
Ill give garmin a call and try to persuade them to send a replacement mount kit, ive a tour coming up so speedy resolution needed!
thanks for your help!!
