Thanks again for all the help and info.

I certainly feel a lot more confident with the XT2 than I did thanks to you guys.

The routes I moved over as gpx files look as if they are going to work okay, I also moved a file via Trip Manager which also seems good and was very easy to use.

I'm a bit of a novice with all this so it does take time to sink in but I'm sure once I get used to TM it will defiantly be the way forward.

I have a trip to Portugal in a couple of weeks so routes are now all loaded and fingers crossed will cause no issues. I will keep you updated :)

My friend updated his XT to the XT2 last year and had a few instances of the unit resetting itself while on a route, mine did this a couple of times last time out but I'm hoping now the software has been updated and Tread is no longer syncing this issue may be resolved, fingers crossed!

Have a good weekend everyone :)

Glad you are feeling more confident with it.

Some quick things to help make the holiday trouble free:

1. When navigating a route, avoid using the Skip Button if at all possible - unless you need to or you loaded the route using Trip Manager.
2. If you do have to 'skip' a route point, then as soon as you can afterwards, stop, re-load the route and select Closest Entry Point.

3. If you select the first point of the route when you set off (in response to Select Next Destination), make sure that you actually pass through it. If it is very near to where you start, I suggest selecting Closest Entry Point instead, and check the preview map to ensure it is heading in the right direction.

4. If you have time, put the route and a track of the route in the same collection. When that collection is visible, the track is underneath the route - so you cannot see it very well, but if the route recalculates - the black track is VERY visible and you can choose to follow the recalculated route, or follow the original route marked by the track. I use black tracks for this.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Spent some time today with Trip Manager and using FrankB's method 5 I successfully loaded all my MRA routes to the XT2. Once you get the hang of it, it so quick and every route worked perfectly on the desktop.

Each route did recalculate due to being planned using a different map than what's on the XT2 (planned using Here on MRA) but the difference was a couple of miles at the most, that's a lot closer than the 3049km route that I was getting when in reality it should be 105km!

Going to have a play now with putting the track on too in black, just in case it has moment when I'm away.

Fingers crossed I now have a Garmin that is as user friendly as it is supposed to be. :)

It should be noted that I did the programming, but without the help of users of this forum TripManager would never have been created. To name some people that were really important: @jfheath @smfollen @Peobody @proofresistant

How did you do the compare? TripManager can help you with that: https://frankbijnen.github.io/TripManag ... hagpx.html

For MRA be sure to export including Tracks (Gpx 1.1 Route+track+Poi)

Tick the checkbox Tracks in SendTo

Keep the default selected checkboxes in the next dialog. Note that you can change the color here! (I tend to use DarkBlue)

And your tracks should be on the XT2. The only thing left to do is making them show on the map. You will have to use the collection settings for that.

Good Luck

It used to bother me that the Zumo needed to calculate the route. The Garmin 590 used to preserve the route from Basecamp without recalculating, but with the XT2, there are so many circumstances where it will recalculate the whole route, it is better that the XT2 calculates it in the first place.
MRA v1.1 doesn’t send the original route anyway - only the route points - but it sends all of the route points, unlike v1,2.

Two more snippets. You may wish to put your gpx files onto an SD card that is not in the Zumo as a backup in case you accidentally delete a route or track. Long shot, but I do like my belt and braces approach.

There is a simple edit to a theme file that you can carry out to make the track wider when it is under the route. My black tracks appear as a black border to the route when they are both following the same road.

I’ll find a link. Here you are….

It looks complex, but that is because I explain it. It’s basically copying a ktmf file, changing three lines slightly and saving it.
