Motorbikes No Entry - street sign icons visible on the map

Post by proofresistant »

During some tests, I noticed that sometimes
Motorbikes No Entry” street sign icons appear on the map along the route path.

However, I can't figure out what to do to make these signs appear or not.
Same settings on the device, two nearly similar routes.
One route uses shapings, and the other was created on the device from a track.
On one route (the one from the track), it is (currently) displayed, and on the other route (the one with the shapes), it is not displayed.

Does anyone know the reason behind this and can tell me what settings to adjust to turn the display of the “Motorbikes No Entry” street sign icons on or off?

By the way, I haven’t activated any additional maps.
But even if I had, I’d just still be interested in the relevant settings.

1 - Do you have any "avoidances" turned on? Like "No dirt roads", "No U-Turns", anything like that that would cause it to show this?

2 - Are you connected to the Tread App? Is this some sort of traffic warning from the Tread App?

3 - Have you checked with the local authorities, as maybe they have closed it to "Motorcycles" or "Other Vehicles"?

Just thinking outside of the box here.

Re 1: No avoidances.
Re 2: The Tread app is sometimes active, sometimes not, but there are no traffic reports.
Re 3: There may be restrictions for motorcycles; I’ll look into the details.

Re "Just thinking outside of the box here." : thanks :-)

But why do I see the signs “only” on the selected route and not on the other route, even though they’re essentially the same?

It would be great if I could always show the signs—on or off, whenever I need them ;-)

If possible ZOOM in to where the signs are popped up. While you say that the routes are "essentially" the same, if they are not you may have the avoidances showing on the screen. That could be the source.

As to turning on or off such signs, I am sorry I don't know how to do that.

I'll try playing around and see what I can find out but I can make no promises.

Quite often, with Traffic enabled, I will see some 'No Entry' signs that I think are along my route but then the route does not try to re-calculate. It then turns out these signs are for side road running off my route that I do not need to go down. As @technoguppy suggests, if you can zoom in, these may be similar and for no bikes allowed on some off-road tracks perhaps. Just a thought.

That was a good point!
I should have thought of that myself. And yes, right where the routes split, that’s where you can see the red signs.
I was so happy to finally see those signs that I let myself get distracted from digging deeper too quickly.
I’m going to try to analyze parts of the route more thoroughly now and retrace some of the steps.

Unfortunately it is not easy or may not possible :-(
Since i now know that the device and perhaps the Tread app as well, is aware of showing these restricted zones, it would be helpful if they could be made visible.
That would certainly have been useful many times, both for planning and especially for making quick adjustments on the spot during the tour.

But don’t go to the effort for me only, just if you’re interested yourself!

If find any way to display these signs,
please lett's know.

And without Traffic, like my case yet :?:

OK, so it is possible to display them, good to know :!:
But how is it controlled :?: Only via Traffic if you’re not actually driving there yourself :?:

You had your routes displayed so I thought it may be a possibility. Just a thought and you did find what you were looking for by zooming in.

Thanks, that was a good idea.

I’m going to start looking for routes like that on purpose, because there are actually some beautiful routes in Germany that you’re not allowed to ride on a motorcycle.
There are some POIs in WWW , but it would be nice if the GPS could show them using its own data.

Thanks to @technoguppy and @Regain, I quickly figured out to just take a closer look at the map; I found (as mentioned above) the reasons and differences behind how the symbols are displayed, sometimes they show up, sometimes they don’t, so far, so good.

But then I dug even deeper and tried to make use of this feature I’d just discovered.
Unfortunately, though, I ultimately didn’t find any real benefit for myself.

Background:
The “Motorbikes No Entry” symbols appeared in places where a motorcycle could physically still fit through, but where there were also pedestrians, bicycles, or private sections. That’s why it’s prohibited.
The reason this happened to me was because of a track I’d never actually use as-is, but I figured I might as well test some alternatives ;-)

Hoping for some real added value
Then I tried to plan a route with good roads where, unfortunately, only motorcycles are banned (discriminatory) here in Germany (here in my local area).
That’s exactly where I would have liked some support (with Garmin Navi out of the box) that would also show me these restrictions for motorcyclists.
So I built a route using the most important routes that are so discriminatory toward us motorcyclists.
Result:
Nothing usable, whether with traffic avoidance or not.
My navigation device lets me pass through all the example sections I used without any issue advices.
For Garmin, they’re fine :?: despite generally known motorcycle restrictions that have been in place for years

I’ll probably give it another try this weekend, since some of the examples only apply on weekends.
But even then, I don’t expect it to work.

All I know can do is continue to manually download or update third-party POIs or track sections with motorcycle restrictions from the web. :-(

Here’s my example (incl. "Moto prohibited Roundtrip BC.gpx"), on which I my self don’t even see any restrictions in navigation device.
Who knows, maybe someone will find a "little" solution ;-)
