This means that the Y cable for the zumo XT3 has to be purchased separately :-(
I Agree
You need this: Handlebar Controller and Group Ride Radio Y-Adapter Kit

Be careful. The additional cable was documented incorrectly when the handlebar controller came out. They corrected that eventually, but for some reason they are still calling it an adapter. An adapter is usually a device that allows the connection of two existing items. This cable does not - it completely replaces the existing cable and cradle.

The lead that you want is as shown in the diagram above, but is not numbered.

But check what you got in your box. Make sure that it does not have a piggy tail lead with a screw on connector already attached. Garmin did sell an XT2 with such a lead in the box - probably as a package with the handlebar controller. I don’t know if they have done this with the XT3.
If the cradle has only 3 brass pins, and there is no piggy tail connector for the accessory, then you need to buy the new lead to replace it.

The handlebar connector has two usb connectors. Only one is used - the other is there to piggy back another device.

I believe that this is the cable that you need - but check carefully what you have already.

What do you do with your existing cable ? Well I have a ram ball mount on a solid wooden block on my desk and it is attached to a 12v output from a mains transformer. Very handy for a quick charge and for experimenting / testing. In my case, being an XT1 cradle, it works with the XT1 and XT2

Today's discussion with support :-(

Me: Is it possible to lower the volume of alert of the incoming notification from the phone? The "DING" sound is like as the sound of cymbals next to the ear, it is very uncomfortably sound, very loud. Or turn of this sound?

Support: Thank you for contacting Garmin Chat Support. I will be with you shortly.

Support: Can I have the device's serial number.

Me: Registered to my account :-) 00X00XXXX (right value for support, fake here)

Support: See the following link for information: https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp ... 8F357.html

Me: I need voice for navigation commands, I can't mute all sounds.

Support: There is an option to use the slider bar to adjust the volume.

Me: I need to lower the volume of alert of the incoming notification from the phone ONLY, no other sounds.

Support: One moment.

Me: Or to mute sound of notification. This sound the same as warning for Cyclops (radars)

Support: Unfortunately this would not be possible on the device. The Mixer Using the Audio Mixer has all of the volume options. Notifications would be part of media. You may be able to get individual volume controls through your phone, but you would need to get with your phone manufacturer to

Me: This sound is not from the phone. I have three phones, Samsung S23 Ultra, Nokia 7+ and Motorola Edge 60. Every phone has a different notification sound set to it, this sound can be heard in the XT3 as "media sound" and has setting in the volume settings, but the XT3 always plays a loud "DING" with it.

Support: I understand.

Me: OK. If you understand, why do you write that the phone is to blame?

Support: The above information is what I was provided for a resolution.

Me: Silencing all sounds is not the solution!
Me: Is possible to turn-off this sound totally? Replace any sound file?

Support: Unfortunately this would not be possible on the device.

Me: That's not good news. Thanks for your time.

Support: Thanks for choosing Garmin. Have a great day!

Me: It would be a great day if it were possible to turn down or turn off the annoyingly loud sound.

I know that you have an XT3, and I don't - But I’ll get back to you on this, tell you where it is on the XT2. I can’t at the moment, I’m twiddling my thumbs in a car park waiting for someone !

Edit:

XT2 has options for Navigation, Media, Phone Calls, Proximity Alerts. (Phone calls only when a headset is connected).

If the sound is something that is generated by the phone itself, then you might have to change your alert sound on the phone.

In settings, Driver assistance - you can alter what alerts the XT2 gives you: Rider Alerts - and a whole liest of tick options (Lane Closure, Schools, Bends etc,). In the same section there are other types of alerts Speeding, borders, ride summary etc. In that same section is another fro Proximity Alerts - including Audio which dictates the type of tone - including 'Off'.

Depending on whether your phone is iOS based or Android Based - you can control the alerts coming to the XT2 via the Tread App.
For iOS, this is done ont he XT2 itself (I can't help with that, but I have checked it out in the past, so I know it is there).
For Anddroid, even without allowing Tread to Store Data or synch you have to open up the Tread App on your phone.

On the map screen clcik the 3 bar menu
Settings, then Zumo XT2- Finish Setup

If you do not want to activate the Tread Synch disaster - then make sure that you do not tap on 'Enable Storage' - otherwise to delete it you have to uninstall everything, reset your Zumo to factory and start again as if it was a fresh install.

Click Smart Notifications . If you get a check list, skip the next bit - it is already set up. Otherwise:
  • and Set Notification Permissions.
You get a list of all of the Apps on your phone - scroll down to find the Tread App and turn it on.
    Go back -- <
The map appears - click the 3 bar menu - > Settings
If you skipped that last bit, continue from here:

There is a list of what alerts you wish to come from your phone to the XT2.

Alerts
Email
Incidents
Messages
Reminders
Social
Other

There are more options if you have iOS

Turn thema ll off except the ones that you really want to know about. I generally have them all turned off except 'Messages' . People don't normally message me unless it is important - and I generally regard Social Medai stuff as completely ignorable for a few days.

Note that this does not stop messages or whatever coming through to your phone. It stops Tread from passing that info on to the XT2. The message or whatever will still be on your phone when the XT2 is turned off.

Hope one of these snippets helps.

Sorry I cannot speak refer to the XT3 - I don't have one. But I expect that least some of the abaove relates to both XT2 and XT3. THey use the same Tread app.

This sound isn't generated by the phone, its from XT3.
I hear notificaction from the phone, volume setting 50% in "Sound" -> "Mixer" -> "Media". I have the R2D2 sound set on my phone.

My problem is "DING" generated by XT3.
Settings -> Driver Assistance -> Rider Alerts = off
Settings -> Driver Assistance -> Proximity Alerts = off

I sold the XT2 a month ago... I don't remember exactly, the XT2 also made a similar sound, it just wasn't as loud as the XT3 and Tread 2.

Ok

I've been playing with this - dug out my old phone and sim card - still active ! and started sending myself messages. You are right. No matter what settings I alter about messages / notifications being sent to the Zumo - it always dings even if volumes are all turned down.

I'd never noticed this - but I only ever have phone calls turned on (not messages as I think I said before). But with the cardo up load that is an ear piercing ding.

The sound file that I was on about is for the phone ring, not the ding sound.

Sorry. I tried. The only way seems to be to not let common notifications come through - or only a limited subset. The screen doesn't show them then either.

I also use the bike for business trips, I need to be informed about incoming messages.

I don't remember exactly, the XT2 didn't have a "ding" sound as loud as the XT3 and Tread 2, the XT2 has this sound less annoying. I will arrange a test with the new owner of my former XT2.

I searched in the .System folder for some sound file, *.wav or *.mp3, without success. It would be nice to know some hack how to get into the Linux operating system in the XT3, and be able to change or delete the sound file.

The XT2 does have a ding sound, but I can’t say that I ever noticed it before. It certainly had it today when I tested it - and it is very load when the Cardo volume is well up.

The file I was referring - I found it, but it isn’t the ding. It’s a phone ring sound.

Just a thought, in the Tread app there's a Smart Notifications tab, is the setting up done here for what the XT3 does?
