Has anyone ever noticed that the zumo XT2 has "Routing restrictions" internal, which are not or only rarely visible or noticeable?
Messeage Box, translated from German, as something like “avoidance of public through traffic”
I saw it for the first time today, unfortunately only sporadically, while testing with shaping points.
This could explain why my experiences with zumo XT2 sometimes do not lead to the route one would expect.
Perhaps this is also the reason why the waypoints from the Tread app are “significantly” shifted to other roads on the app itself automaticly.
PS
This occurred on a road I am familiar with, where I have never seen such a restriction in reality. According to Google Street View, there is also no reason not to drive on this observed road.
Routing restrictions - not rarely noticeable - Cannot calculate a route. No roads near the selected point allow through

Re: Routing restrictions - not rarely noticeable - likely “avoidance of public through traffic”
Not seen that on the XT2, but Tread does show where there's likely to be heavy traffic, though only seems to be on urban roads. Tread also shows where it can't avoid going on a route that breaks the avoidance's rules, for example, using an unpaved road when they are an avoidance.
How do you see the routing restrictions in the XT2? Trying to show you the Tread version, but the Garmin server seems to be faulty as all routes that have it, seem to have the spinning wheel of death "calculating".

Re: Routing restrictions - not rarely noticeable - likely “avoidance of public through traffic”
I'm not sure exactly what you're asking but if you have Traffic enabled, you can decide whether to let the XT2 route around it or not (I don't bother as it may be historical traffic or I can filter) but what you cannot then stop happening is the XT2 routing around road closures. On my most recent tour, with plenty of shaping points on a MRA gpx1.1 route, I found a happy occurrence whereby I was routed around the closure and back onto my original route. That happened at least twice to me so maybe that's now a thing, unlike how it used to be when the Garmin would totally obliterate your route and take you miles out of the way to avoid the closure.
If I've misunderstood, it happens!

So, the message box text in British English then displayed:
“Cannot calculate a route. No roads near the selected point allow through traffic.”
In German: “Keine Routenberechnung möglich. Durchgangsverkehr auf Straßen in der Nähe des ausgewählten Punkts nicht erlaubt.”
@Stu
can you change this thread title?
from "likely “avoidance of public through traffic”" to “Cannot calculate a route. No roads near the selected point allow through traffic.” ?
However, the problem itself has probably been identified and has just been solved.
The cause was a wide paved bicycle path, only a meter or two away from the road where I wanted to set the shaping point.
PS
I was familiar with the standard message: “Cannot calculate a route. No roads near the selected point on the map,” but that's self-explanatory
PPS
By the way, whether the Traffic option is enabled or not, nothing matters in this case.

@proofresistant ok, now I understand and I’m glad you got it sorted. Something else to watch out for.
