There's a Maps to GPX website that seems to work;
https://mapstogpx.com/
Rather than 'opening in basecamp' I had better luck saving the file in GPX format and opening that in basecamp.

Another way is described here;

Google's made it more difficult (you'll need a google account & give them some billing info)

The drawack to this solution (in the video) is that he uses Google’s ‘my maps’ which I find more complex than using Google maps; ‘Maps’ suggests alternate routes and allows you drag way points which are features I didn’t find in ‘my maps’.

The one thing I found annoying about Google maps is the limited number of shaping points allowed, 10 I think. If riding across my state at least 3 different routes are required because of this to maintain the route I want instead of being automatically dumped onto an interstate. Base Camp has no such restriction.

Don't know about avoidances in Google maps but, being limited to only 10 shaping points severely limits the custom routing. When you use them up Google automatically routes however it wants. I'm currently working on a route in Base Camp, about 370 miles. 10 shaping points are used up in about 80, so another route has to be made, then another, and maybe another. Base Camp will do the whole thing, exactly the way I want it, in one route.
