Tread app "Enabling Storage" automatically
Has anyone reset their XT2, or got a new one, and added the Tread app with the ability to chose whether the external storage wasn't automatically enabled.
This is what I see in Tread for my XT2

Re: Tread app "Enabling Storage" automatically
Yes, they got rid of the mandatory "auto" sync some time ago. You can now choose to sync to your units routes with the Tread App or just leave it alone. I highly recommend the latter. The one thing I don't believe it does well is TELL YOU it's changed something. It just updates to what the Tread App thinks is right then overwrites your XT2 route without telling you. If it were strictly speaking, just a sync between the two it would be fine but the fact that is "massages" the route unexplicably without telling you is very troubling. IMDO.

Re: Tread app "Enabling Storage" automatically
For anyone who has not enabled cloud storage, can you confirm whether or not you can send a route (GPX import or otherwise) from Tread to the XT2?
I’ve never tried this but am led to believe that you lose that facility. If so, that takes away a huge part of what some of us need for touring. I don’t want to take a laptop with me.
Thank you in advance.

Re: Tread app "Enabling Storage" automatically
I tried this just now. I was able to go into the Tread App, make a route, hit Sync (upper left corner in the Explore feature) and it is reading my test.gpx file. Just looked deeper into my Tread App, it seems I do have the "Enable Storage" feature turned on and I cannot undo that. Sorry I really thought I was helping but it seems I am unable to do so.
I suppose you could send the saved file to another device (of your choosing), put it on an SD Card, then IMPORT it from the SD card slot of the XT2. Here is a gizmo I found on Amazon. Certainly smaller than a laptop. Might give you what you need.
This device would enable you to save it directly to an SD card from your phone and IMPORT it to the XT2?

Re: Tread app "Enabling Storage" automatically
I did it! I made a route on Tread App, sent it to myself on Signal, saved the file to the SD Card through the adapter I had on hand. Then I inserted the SD Card into the XT2 and it found it, and asked if I wanted to IMPORT it. I did. It worked. Hope that gives you an option.

Re: Tread app "Enabling Storage" automatically
Thanks for checking @technoguppy
Previous versions allowed you to have the weather / traffic without the routing problems that happen when the XT2 / Tread app talk to the Garmin cloud.
Would seem that now it's all or nothing with Tread, so those who only want the weather and traffic, be very careful what you do with your XT2!

Re: Tread app "Enabling Storage" automatically
I'm a bit confused by this thread.
Nothing appears to have changed.
With "Enable Storage" not active. Everything except for the ability to wirelessly transfer routes to my XT2 works fine.
Be sure to completely wipe the app cache/storage when doing a reset.
Or delete it completely to reinstall.

@Oop North John @technoguppy @Lanso
What versions of XT2 firmware and Tread App are you each running?
Imagine how nice it would be if Garmin gave us software we could understand and trust.
Imagine if they gave us something that allowed wireless transfer of a gpx file to the zumo without having to worry about what got changed.

Re: Tread app "Enabling Storage" automatically
I'm on XT2 6.40 and Tread 3.00.06. I suspect that the Tread update to stop whether you chose to enable the storage was some versions ago, as I usually have it enabled.smfollen wrote: Sat Feb 28, 2026 5:30 pm @Oop North John @technoguppy @Lanso
