dashboards

On my ZUMO 390 I can choose among several dashboards. My 395 also has a dashboards folder but there is no menu item in settings/map to slect a dashboard. Am I missing something or is there a way to fix this?

Did you get an answer to this @lather ?

If not —- I’m not sure what you mean by a ‘dashboard’ - is this the initial Garmin screen ?
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

No no answer. The dashboard is the line of data items along the bottom of the naviggation screen.
The dashbaord I preferhas Trip A Mileagfe, Elevation, Time Speed and these can each be changed to different data. Other dashborads have differnt configurations of various selectable data. Some are easier to see but take up more of the map area

Right -ok.

I don’t know the 395 but I have the 590 and 595 and they are broadly similar in many respects - so I knew where to look in the manual !

You may need to enable map tools.

https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp ... 23D74.html

The link above shows what tools are available on the 395. From what you describe, you need ‘Trip Data’ to be enabled.

There is a link at the bottom of that page to show you how to access map tools. From the map view, spanner, gear icon.

On the 590 and 595 there was a limit of 8 as to how many map tools you could have available on the map screen. The tools were shown in a display of 4x2 icons - so I had to remove some unwanted tools from this display to get Trip Data to appear on the map display.

So I had to choose 8 tools from a longer list of (say) 16. Once selected I could use the tools on the map.

My Zumos are usually put in landscape view so the trip data appeared on the right of the screen, rather than at the bottom. It would ‘stack’ one display over the other - so If I selected trip display, then phone, then music - the music app would appear on the right on top of the others - which were no longer visible. But then I’d I tapped on the x button to turn off the music app, the phone app was then revealed. Tap x again and the trip data would be revealed.

Worth noting that there are two other displays. One is speed, the other is normally time, or compass direction. In white in the lower right corner on a landscape screen. That button is also configurable just like the 3 trip data buttons.

This is a screenshot from my 590 or 595 in landscape view.

I’d be curious to know how relevant the above info is to your 395 - but hopefully it points you in the right direction !
I do remember that switch from the 660 to the 590. I used to use the trip data display a lot - and still do. It took me a while to find it on the 590.

Yes I have Map Tools enabled on my 395 and it works and looks like your 595.
Here are screenshots from of my 390 of preferred dashboard, the menu item for dashboards and the dashboard configuration page with one of the 8 differrent available dashboards.

After looking trhough the 395 manual I found no mention of dashboards. I went to my 390 manual but there is no mention there either. However, I noticed the manual I have for the 390 is labeled Zumo 300 Series - not 390. Apparently there is no manual specific to the 390!

By the way I do appreciate your detailed reply to my post!

It is strange that the 395 would have a dashboards folder if it no longer has a dashboard configuration page. Also odd that neither the forum search nor Google site search finds any mention of the dashboards. I would have expected someone, sometime, to have commented on the change.

Google AI did find
AI Overview

Based on user forums and Garmin file structure, the dashboard files for the Garmin Zumo 390 are typically defined in the Dashboard folder on the device and use the file extension .dshb.
  • File Extension: .dshb (e.g., GarminNavigon_480x272.dshb).
  • Format Type: These files are generally formatted as XML.
  • Location: They are found in the \Garmin\Dashboards directory in the device's internal storage.
These files determine the layout and information fields displayed on the map screen (e.g., speed, elevation, trip data).
I wonder if the 390 .dshb files could be copied to the 395 and recognized?

Searching Garmin online help for the 390 comes up with instructions for setting dashboard but searching online help for 395 does not.
Here is a screenshot of the dasboards folder in the 395.

I am beginning to think the Garmin engeneers just forgot to implement the Dashboards setting page on the 395.
