SC Edge Schuberth (SC Edge Packtalk Edge); Smartphone (Android); BMW TFT and Zumo XT2 pairings

Post by Gelo »

Hi everyone,
Please help me figure out the best pairings for these devices so that everything works perfectly.
I know that the first thing is to determine which will be the main HUB, the TFT or the XT2.

I don't know which is better, but I have chosen to channel everything to the XT2 and to do this I have paired them as follows:

1. SC Edge - Smartphone (includes the Cardo app) (Bluetooth audio only)
2. SC Edge - XT2 (paired as GPS) (Bluetooth everything open, calls, contacts, audio)
3. Smartphone - XT2 (via Tread
4. Smartphone - BMW TFT (Bluetooth calls and contacts, no audio)

This has allowed me to achieve smooth operation with the XT2 in full control, but having to disable the TFT's Bluetooth audio means I lose connection with the BMW app. It's a minor inconvenience, but I would like to know if there are better combinations, even with the TFT as the main hub.

I hope you can help.
Thank you.

Sorry for the wait.

Quick answer. I have the XT2 - but have owned most Zumos and still own 3 earlier versions. This setup works for me:

Zumo is the main hub - at the centre.

Headset - Cardo Packtalk Edge - is paired to the XT2 by BT and sound is verified to work - instructions, music from mp3 player, key clicks.

Phone paired to the XT2 - I use the second channel on the Cardo Edge. That is so that the first channel is always available for connecting the Cardo Edge App for changes to set up. I always unpair/forget that connection when I have finished with it. Doing that leaves the XT2 connection intact.
I pair the XT2 as a phone to the Edge, not as a satnav. That is because the XT2 will take over phone controls, address book, messages etc from the phone when I pair it.

When talking to pillion / I use the MESH system, not BT.

Music - rarely needed, but if I want it, it comes from the XT2 inbuilt mp3 player which is excellent.

Limitations - I have been unable to make voice instructions to phone work, but I haven’t tried to hard. The phone would have to be permanently unlocked, and I have never bothered beyond that point - I just wanted to see if it could. What you can do is set off a Spotify playlist before you set off, and use the Hey Cardo command to pause, play, skip track , previous track.

I do not have Garmin Tread synching on my phone. tread is installed, but not allowed to synch. My XT2 used to hang on to the phone channel After a call had ended and needed to be shut off and turned on again. In the meantime, instructions from the Zumo were not heard. That problem went away when I got a later model phone. But it also went away if Tread was not installed.
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

The way to use the "OK Google" command on the XT2 is as follows:

1- On the XT2, press the phone menu (either from the home screen by pressing the phone icon, or by bringing up the phone menu with the remote control),

2- then press the "voice dialing" button (In the lower right part of the phone menu).

3- Once pressed, the phone goes into listening mode, and if you say "OK Google call Mom," it recognizes your voice and you can use it for that, or to start Spotify, or anything else.

Personally, I find it faster and more intuitive to make some calls than searching in the address book or similar things ;)

Thank you for that snippet of information. I had assumed that the voice instruction button related just to phone calls - something that I don’t do when riding, so I have never tried it. I’ll give that a go - just out of curiosity more than anything else. I find that music coming from the phone via the Zumos gets more and more fragmented the longer you ride - although I have yet to try that with the XT2.

I use the mp3 player - but then only occasionally. I find it distracting when riding, particularly with other vehicles around - but I do like to know these things.
