New member from the Midlands

Post by Yuthe »

Hi everyone
Finally decided to sign up after lurking here for a bit. Been riding for years, mostly touring around the UK and the odd trip across the channel when I can get the time off. Currently got a Zumo XT on my bike. It’s a decent bit of kit but it definitely has its moments, hence why I’m here. I’m not exactly a tech wizard with Basecamp and all that, usually I just want to plug it in and go, but as we know, Garmin likes to make things interesting sometimes. Anyway, hope to pick up a few tips and maybe help out if I actually manage to figure something out myself for once.
Cheers,
Yuthe

Greetings @Yuthe, welcome to the forum. If you have been lurking then you know that there are plenty of folks here with lots of wisdom about the XT and Basecamp. They (we?) don't all agree but I think that is part of what makes this place great. I get different ideas from which to pick what works best for you. Safe riding!

Welcome @Yuthe.

We know how to make the XT1 behave exactly as you want it:

1. Get rid of the Explore Link.
2. Delete and Install the Drive App - without linking to Explore.
3. Use the route planner of our choice - BC does everything you want. MRA is good - but with some confusing terminology.
4. Be prudent with your use of Via and Shaping points.
5. Nobble the route so that the XT cannot make a mess of it (eg RUT behaviour)
6. Display a track under your route.
7. Alway have your place your point at least half a mile from where you will get on your bike.

In case you haven't found it yet : viewtopic.php?t=1464
Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !
