If anyone could help me that would be great. I retired my 660 a few years ago because after many years of great service and frequent LM map updates (without any problems) it started giving me the message "The map update is too large to fit on your device. To continue, choose a region to replace western Europe . You can always change Regions later if needed".
I wasn't happy with that. I did find a way to get around this and load the whole of Europe that involved some technical califudgery. Now that I want to bring it back to life I have totally lost the instructions I used before to fully update the maps. I didn't find anything on here with a quick search.
If anyone knows the secret to this I would be very grateful.
many thanks in advance

Re: 660 map update
I believe Garmin has deemed the 660 to be beyond its "useful life".
Your best bet for updated maps would be OSM maps, which are updated frequently and usually free. There are many sources, which will vary a bit in detail and appearance, so you might want to try a few. I like the color and contrast of the maps from openmapchest.org, which can be downloaded directly for a donation to support the servers, or for free with a torrent client.
Openmapchest has good installation instructions at the top of their home page. You will want to end up with .img files for the zumo, and the .gmap version for Basecamp/Mapsource. I download the Basecamp installer and then let MapInstall in Basecamp transfer the file to my Zumo.

Re: 660 map update
I had a 660 a few months ago, but gave it away, so this is from recall. I installed an SD card into the 660 - I think it was a micro SD. Then, I used Mapinstall and loaded ALL of North America onto the SD card. If you have an older map on the device storage, you could leave it and then uncheck it when you look at the map screen. Or, you could select any small map sector and load it to the Zumo internal storage, then load the REST of the map to the SD Card. I think that will work.Topbox wrote: Wed Dec 17, 2025 5:20 pm it started giving me the message "The map update is too large to fit on your device.
