Straight line section in a route observation
First time I've done it, and see that no "arrival time" is shown or available. I can see the logic, but it did confuse me when I saw it today. From what I've seen it's the same if the direct leg is the last, or in the middle of the route.

Re: Straight line section in a route observation
It makes sense because it gets the road speed limit information and typical traveling times from the map data. If the route doesn’t follow roads, it has no data. I guess that it makes sense not to give a value for something that it cannot calculate.
But I doubt that I would have thought of that if I had seen my screen not displaying an ETA!l
Curious, though. Straight / direct sections have to be bounded by Via points. The trip data display on the right hand side of the screen (if enabled) can show ETA, distance and time to the next via points. Does it still show that data if the segment currently being navigates is not a direct / straight line segment ?
ETA = Estimated Time of Arrival

Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Re: Straight line section in a route observation
From my limited testing, which was done on the M6 heading north was that the ETA option becomes unavailable in the trip data area, and also if you look at the speed etc data screen by clicking on the speed display at the bottom left for the whole "route". That was where the direct part was the last segment. Will have a look at a simulated route to see what it does if the direct segment is not at the end.jfheath wrote: Fri Nov 21, 2025 12:20 am Curious, though. Re: Straight line section in a route observation
I have used direct points a number of times in order to deal with ferry crossings, odd intersections, and stretches of road that BC would not route of over and have never seen the time/ETA go missing. Admittedly, mine have never been at the end of the route. It may have gone unnoticed with the others since I wouldn't be looking a the satnav during a ferry crossing and most of the other that come to mind have been very short.
BTW, neither bounding route point needs to be a Via points.
Also know that if the satnav recalculates, any direct routing assigned to route points will be lost.

Re: Straight line section in a route observation
Simulated a route with a straight line in between two mid via points, and the arrival time still shows as blank. Added in an extra via point using the "where to" and after recalculating, it still showed a blank arrival time. Changing the straight line section to a "faster" one in the XT2's route planner then showed an arrival time.

Re: Straight line section in a route observation
My comment about the direct point behavior with the XT does not have any relevance to this discussion. Sorry about that.
The XT does not allow for assigning profiles by segment in routes created on it, and does not 'recognize' a direct segment in a route created in Basecamp. It will follow such a route by following the ghost points. A device recalc will break it.
