After fighting with Google offline maps and CarPlay in my VW Amarok, I decided to mount a dedicated navigation product on the dash.
While the Zumo XT2 is primarily a product for bikes, it makes for a great in-vehicle navigation alternative to what's served up on CarPlay, and I can attach a rear-facing camera wirelessly at the back of my caravan.
I added a fused plug to the supplied wiring harness to power the device from the dash 12V socket.
I can now use BaseCamp to plan my routes and I can be out of network range, a common issue where I live.
The mount is fixed to a custom bracket I made up that sits below the dash trim and secures to some existing screw points inside the dash. A better option to a friction or windscreen mount.

Re: Zumo XP2 in my car
When I moved up to the XT, I put my 595 in my truck to replace my very-long-in-the-tooth nuvi 780.
