Ahh, i see!

i tend to use shaping points in MRA to shape my route.
And then use VIA points for towns i plan on stopping in.

Is there no way of sending GPX's directly to the XT2 trough bluetooth or wifi without tread sync?

I don't mind using an SD card, it's just a bit cumbersome for on the fly route making.

Regards!

Yes, That's similar to what I, and I suspect most riders, do.

As far as I know, Tread is the only wireless way to send routes to the XT2.

You can also send gpx files over a usb cable between computer and XT2. Obviously that is not convenient when on the road.

I stopped using the Tread App a long time ago. I hope it gets fixed someday, but I'm not holding my breath.

You might want to check out Trip Manager which runs on a pc and communicates with the zumo over usb cable. I have found it to be the best way to transfer gpx routes, tracks, waypoints etc. from gpx to the zumos. viewtopic.php?p=24080#p24080

Trip Manager is well worth looking at.

Using the traditional usb cable method, when you put a gpx file onto the Zumo, it has to be imported before you can use it to navigate. That process takes information from the gpx file and creates a .trip file in the hidden .System folder. It is during that process that that things get altered, names changed, points moved, route flagged as being imported. After import, the gpx file is never looked at again.

Trip manager does not send your gpx file to the Zumo. Instead it creates the .trip file from your gpx file and places that in the hidden .trips folder. it gives it a sensible name rather generating a unique number. The Zumo never sees the gpx file so it never gets the chance to alter the route point names or position. And it flags the route as being saved, rather than imported - so things like RUT behaviour do not happen. I know, I have tried very hard to force it to happen and failed.

When you reboot the Zumo after using TripManager, the routes, tracks and Waypoint are already listed in the appropriate section.

Some other things it will do - if requested:
  • Use your route to create a track and assign a colour to it.
  • Use your via points and/or shaping points to create stored Waypoints of the same name.
  • When the route has been loaded and calculated, TM provides the facility to preview the route that it has created and compare with the track. It is so much easier to see on a computer screen.
It will work best If Tread is not allowed to synch. You can use Tread’s other features eg Traffic, weather, up ahead places, road closures etc without setting it up to synchronise.

Thanks once again for putting TripManager in the spotlight.
I would like to add 'if requested' to the quoted remark though. Meaning it will only do that if requested in the 'Send to' dialog.

You have to select the items to send by ticking the corresponding checkboxes.

BTW: TripManager would not have evolved to such a useful tool, if it weren't for the help and support of this forum. To name a few @jfheath, @smfollen, @proofresistant, @Peobody, @Stu Apologies to people I forgot to mention.

I'm on Tread 2.12.35 and noticed recently for routes it often shows a "generic restriction" on most. The restriction seems to correlate with where there's slower traffic, but doesn't seem to affect the routes time to take.

Anyone else noticed this?

No - but I've not been using it much recently. Not able to get out, nothing to plan ...

But I was intrigued by a FB question which I looked into

Someone posted that road closure on the route did not cause the route to recaclculate. This was an ad hoc route with only a destination.
So I investigated.

Same route with a start and finish. Lots of nearby 'incidents' listed - but 16 miles ahead a raod closure. No option to recalcluate. No immediate recalculation as had been the case before.

But you can display the map showing the incidents and select the closure. and it will show a detailed map and the nature of the incident. Then from the 3 bar menu, you have te option to recalculate.

Its still doesn't look further ahead than the next Via point for road closures affecting the route.

But that to me seems like improved behaviour. Especially given the number of times road closures have not been removed when the road is opened, and night time only closures are flagged up as permanent closures.

Is it possible to select to only look at road incidents along a route, like you can with POIs / waypoints etc?

I have so far only been able to look at the map, or incidents which maybe behind me / off to on side, or ahead, without any indication that they might actually affect my route.

I believe that it is possible to obtain a screen like #5 in this link

app.php/ZXT-P54d
This was obtained from an XT1, but I have reproduced it on an XT2. It only shows the 'items' that are on the route ahead or behind.

Edit - Additional Info from XT2 screen

1. Live Traffic is displayed in the right hand pane - by selecting the option from the lower right 3 bar menu menu.

2. A Traffic map can be obtained by tapping on the Live Traffic Pane. Zoom in and scroll around.

3. Tap the banner on top of the main Navigation Screen

This gives a list of turns up ahead, but you can scroll down and see info about traffic delays.

4. Tap one of the incidents on this list.

Here's another example: Tap one of the incidents - eg Lane Closed

This gives a cose up view of the location

The 3 bar menu in the top left corner gives the option to avoid this incident.

5. From the main menu, select Apps -> Traffic -> 3 bar menu -> Incidents

This gives a list of all of the traffic related incidents and road closures in the area. You can then select the road that you are on
You can then tap on the individual incident to get a close up map of the location.

In this particular example, the road isn't closed at all - it has been made one-way. Diversions were in place on the road, but the stanav was quite happy to navigate straight through the one way system in the wrong direction. The black arrow on the map indicates which way the traffic should flow. But to be fair on the XT2 - that white/red circle is at the wrong end of the road. It isn't closed to traffic from the east.

The Zumos do not seem able to extract the fine detail from road closures. IT is either closed or it isn't. So brief road closures some of the time (eg for 10 mins), or as in this case - closed in one direction only. It seems to chose Yes or no. and sometimes gets it wrong. So I tried the simulator going in the opposite direction. It told me that the A59 was closed and was switching to a new route.

So this issue is not a Garmin or an XT2 issue at all - it is whoever is creating the mapping for road closures !

Many thanks, tried #5 today on the M6. The XT2 showed the ahead and behind as your example. It did get confused as I passed through some congestion as on the far side of it it was in the "ahead" section, but with an arrow showing that it was behind me.

A PITA having to scroll through all the minor roads in all directions before being able to select the M6. But, who buys Garmin GPSRs for sensible software?

Today new Tread App version for Android:

2.12.40 (12 nov 2025)
It's 169 MB, another "important" update.

I'm going to run some tests to see how well it syncs.
