Latest XT2/Tread software version

Is anyone else seeing vastly poorer performance with Express and connecting to their XT2 recently?
It takes 5+ minutes to connect,

It takes a long time for me when I have a lot of routes on the device.
It got really bad after I had synchronization problems with the Tread app, where I had multiple identical route (trip) files internally.

and often the XT2 will restart the connect to the laptop after it's already showing the PC icon etc.

I personally have not yet observed any reboots during the connection.

There are two connection statuses:
1st the zumo XT2 screen appears slightly brighter while the zumo XT2 is “preparing” the connection
2nd the screen becomes slightly darker when the connection is established

And, also doesn't show as a drive either in file explorer.

It is not longer displayed as a drive letter on my computer since "MTP" was implemented, but you find your device as "zumo XT2" in your Explorer
(the reason for the missing drive is the newer type of “MTP” connection with Windows).

And hangs onto showing the icon for minutes after you disconnect it.

Yes, many more routes than normal, which would seem a logical suggestion, thanks.

I've seen the XT2's screen flicker, didn't know that it showed a differing status, again, thanks.

I meant it shows in file explorer with an icon that says "XT2".

The "hanging on" was meant to describe how once the XT2 is disconnected from the PC, then it shows the PC logo and Garmin express details on the XT2's screen.

I think that if the Tread app had sections where you can chose to synchronise data either to, or not to the XT2, then it would help me on this. I like the ability to use Tread when on tour to adjust routes I have already prepared in Basecamp. A bonus is that the Tread apps routing algorithms seem to fairly match the XT2's and therefore allows adjustment of routes to overcome the faster roads algorithm.

I just tried the connection scenario as I suspect you did. I connected the zumo XT2 to the PC and quickly disconnected it while it was preparing the data (during zumo XT2 Connection screen appears slightly brighter).
Unfortunately, it takes much less than 5 minutes for me right now, but I think the behavior is similar.

When the zumo XT2 starts preparing the data (during zumo XT2 Connection screen appears slightly brighter), it completes this process even if it is disconnected from the PC In the meantime.
When the process is complete, the Connection screen shortly switches to slightly darker
and after then, shortly afterwards, does the zumo XT2 switch off as expected.

Then I completely agree with you that there are many good reasons to use the Tread app.
Unfortunately, the Tread app sometimes causes more problems than useful benefits.
And please, if you can, describe the case (including your trip files) to Garmin Support.

I quickly checked update 2.12.31 (09/23/2025)
(The navigation device is also up to date)

I was still hoping for significant improvements to the known issues regarding a) synchronization and b) the shifting of shaping points.
And yes, I still believe in Santa Claus

a) Shaping points are moved, which looks just as bad to me as before.
b) Synchronization hangs and, for whenever or for whatever reason, creates duplicates of the trips in the trip folder.

I've tried to import this and a few other routes made in MRA, I didn't get any shape altering on my device.

I don't understand what the Treasd app does in conjunction with the zumo XT2.

At first, it looked good. I imported via the Tread app and didn't see any major differences.

Then I imported via the zumo XT2 and the differences were visible.
Two differences also led to deviations in the route guidance.
Then there were synchronization problems.
At times, I couldn't open the route at all, with errors such as “Route calculation not possible,” but at some point it worked again.





So, more time invested and more frustration.

To everyone, try it out and share your experiences.
I don't have much hope.

That indeed looks like it's still messing up routes. That's a downright shame

Did anyone ever made a report to Garmin about this?
