BaseCamp shows the route as a straight line

I am creating a simple route in BaseCamp, but the route comes up as i straight line, regardless of which map I am using.
Is there anyone who knows about this and can give me advice? Many thanks in advance.

It will be because route properties is set to direct. Open route properties by right clicking on the route in the left hand pane and select Open, change route activity to something other than direct in the drop down box top right.

Thank you for quick answer, but the activity is already set to Motorcycling, not Direct. So I believe there must be something else.

That looks like the Global Map included with Basecamp, which is not routable. Try switching to a City Navigator map and recalculate.
