Moved from NZ to UK
Moved from NZ to UK
Hi everyone
I've recently returned to the UK from NZ.
I purchased my Zumo XT2 in NZ and need to change the map from Aus/NZ to UK.
Ive read that the map is too large to do this.
Is this correct

Re: Moved from NZ to UK
Hi @chips1953 - welcome to the forums.
The XT2 can download Oz and UK maps - but one set will probably have to be stored on the memory card. Garmin Express allows you to do this.
I had the Oz maps on my memory card for a while and the UK maps in internal storage. No problems. I used a 256Gb SD card - because I had an older one from a video camera lying around. There is some effect on the start up time with larger maps on memory card - not too significant, but noticeable - even if you have one set of map de-selected.
In Express, click Manage maps. There is a list of maps with check boxes. At the top, there are two tabe, one labelled 'MyMaps', one labelled 'Removable Storage'. Both tabs show the same tick list of maps. Select the ones that you want to be in Internal Storage (eg UK), and the ones that you want to be on the SD Card, if any, on the other tab.
You can now use this same window on a third tab to add any maps that you want onto the computer- eg for use by Basecamp. I suggest keeping the default folder name when putting maps onto the computer. Basecamp will find them there without any problems.

Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Re: Moved from NZ to UK
Many thanks for the swift reply.
I will process the method you've outlined and hope I can achieve a solution,
it gives me confidence that the Zumo is not now obsolete. I had a TomTom for several years and had a lot of information and memories that I lost doing an upgrade.
happy to be here, though.

Re: Moved from NZ to UK
I’m stuck at the moment trying to get express actually working
It looks like I don’t have a username password that works. It just sits there loading data forever.
I installed 256gb micro sim. Trying to move my NZ/Aus to it.
I’ve given up at the moment.

Username/password? Neither are needed to download, install, or use Garmin Express.
Be sure that (excessively large) microSD card is formatted as FAT32.

For clarification, the sd card MUST be formatted at FAT32. Formatting cards larger than 32GB as FAT32 such that they maintain their full capacity requires a third party utility. I used AOMEI Partition Assistant (free edition) but GUIFormat and MiniTool Partition Wizard also come to mind.

Re: Moved from NZ to UK
Make sure that your computer is not running Basecamp. Even in the Background.
Make sure that you XT2 is connected by USB cable to your computer.
Make sure that you have ticked the little blue conenction button on the main XT2 screen to conenct to the computer and that the XT2 is showing the orange computer and XT2 logo. Your XT2 will appear as a device on your computer. It should show :
When you first start Garmin Express, it will search for your connected device and show its serial number.
You have to add that device.
You have to give your email address - if you have an account with Garmin, you use the same email address.
An account is necessary if you wish to use Tread Features - even if you don't want to synchronise your routes with Tread (I don't).
Usually there are a number of disconnects and restarts of the XT2 required before Express lets you know that it has finsihed everything. With the XT2 you have to disconenct the cable, wait 5 seconds. Reconnect the cable, turn the XT2 on, let it reboot and then tap the little blue connect icon on the bottom right corner of the main screen. The let Express spot that it is connected.
Sometimes, turning on the XT2 will require it to install the stuff that has been transferred and it will need to reboot again - before connecting to the XT2 again.
I've just uninstalled and gone through all of the steps from fresh. It had 9 updates to carry out - including for a map that it had already installed !!
It doesn't take long though - if you have a decent fibre conenction. If not do the maps when you can leave it for a while to do its thing, and get the smaller installs out of the way first.
