Is it possible to get the same route on XT2 as on Basecamp?

Post by Hugo 1 »

Hello all,
I spend a lot of time making a route on Basecamp and when I transfer it to my XT2 it has altered the route. My guess is it's to do with the Fastest time setting but when I use the other settings the deviations are worse.

All I want is to replicate the route that I've made on Basecamp exactly as I made it when I transfer it to my XT2.

Am I asking too much?

The routing algorithms in Basecamp seem to be similar to those of previous versions of motorcycle and car GPS's. The XT and XT2 have a problem that they prefer to route along a faster road eg UK "A" class over a "B" road even if the "B" road option would mean taking less time.

If you're using shaping points, and Tread then a new level of route alteration takes place.

My personal solution is to only use via = waypoints in the route when building it in Basecamp. Export it and review the route in Tread, possibly adding waypoints if needed, then opening the route in the XT2 to see if it is as I require, which may require more waypoints. Then I can be failry happy the route I want to take is agreed to by the XT2.

Progress compared to the 595 etc for the routing, not at all, but the screen is wonderful.

I've found that if my route is being changed upon transfer, I simply need more points to define the route. Unlike my friend above, I rarely use via points. Shaping points do what I need done.
