I'm transitioning from curious to confused. This is my "Saved tracks" list when accessed via Apps > Tracks. All distance are to the Start point at the exit of my neighborhood. I don't find a setting that could change this. Did I miss it?
@Peobody, this track was created in BaseCamp from a planned route. It represents where I could go rather than where I've been, which is what I think your saved tracks are doing.

Turning a track to a trip - well that's not the same thing at all. But I don't believe that you have done that.
@jfheath, you are correct, but as an experiment I let the XT calculate a route from the 502 mile track. It came up with 477 miles. I'm stumped, too. Fortunately, I typically don't use tracks to guide me but now I'd really like to understand what's going on.

Hmmm.... I create tracks in Basecamp using the "Create Track from Selected Route" function and in the past have always transferred them to the SD card and then imported them however I have been using TripManager lately, possibly since I last cleaned out my XT. @FrankB, do you have any thoughts about whether the tracks created by TripManager could be causing this? I will test this myself when I have time unless we hear definitively from Frank.

I did not use TripManager in this instance but I did use two methods of getting the routes/tracks into the XT. The results above are via email and the Drive app. I just went old school and sent them to my SD card via BaseCamp and then imported. Same result: 477 mile route and 502 mile track.

I just went into Basecamp and made a copy of one of the tracks on my XT, renamed it, exported that one to my local HD, transferred it via USB to the SD card, then imported it into the XT. It shows in the Saved Tracks list as .2 miles, just like all of the others. I then did the same with a track from one of my group ride routes which has a starting point on the other side of the city. I shows up in the track list as 19 miles which is what the Basecamp 'Measure" tool shows as the distance from my house to its start point.
I am befuddled over why I see distance to the start point (direct, not calculated) and you see track length.

I'm the dope here. I assumed the number shown was the length of the track and couldn't be convinced otherwise. Using the ruler in BaseCamp I measured straight line from start to finish and get the 502 miles. Thanks @FrankB and @Peobody for setting me straight.

Just to be sure. The miles/kms shown in the tracks App is the distance to the start from your current location. It is not the length of the track.
Will test if tracks created by TM are different from tracks created by BC. Never noticed anything weird though
Yes, it is for me, but @tombarrington reports that his show length of track.
I did a test comparing what I believe was a TM track to a BC track and there was no discrepancy. The big question is why I see distance to start and Tom sees track length.
