Zumo XT Map2026.20 to basecamp

Post by lawo66 »

the yearly map update was sucessful on my XT:

- CN Europe NTU 2026.20 all south
- CN Europe NTU 2026.20 all north
- CN Europe NTU 2026.20 foursquare
- Europe DEM

are available.

But when i try to install that maps to pc (basecamp) it stops at 35,2% without any message (and NTU 2026 never reaches the PC)
i am running express 7.23.0.0. as admin

any ideas what i can try next?

1. Make sure that you have no other programs that might affect the BT connection. Basecamp for example is known for messing up with the Express BT connection.

You don't need Basecamp open in order to install the maps for Basecamp to use. Express palces the maps in the correct location on you computer's hard disk - always accept the default location, because modern PCs at least, don't seem to honour the append command in the same way that they used to when Basecamp was first written. Basically, it means that if you put it somewhere else, Basecamp will not be able to find it.

And if you happen to be still using Mapsource, then once you have uploaded it for Basecamp, Mapsource will be able to find the same map.

2. If you are using a laptop or if you have power saving software turned on eg that puts your disk to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity (say), then Express will be trying to talk to a device which had nodded off for a while.

3. If you are trying to install other stuff using Express in the same operation, that can cause issues. I find that many of the installs require you to unplug the USB cable, let the Zumo restart and reconnect (and with the XT2 you have to restart it manually, and you have to select the button to reconnect).

Trouble is - you don't know about it because the message that pops up on the screen is hidden behind one of the open windows. It's only when you mutter "(substitute rude adjective here) - Garmin" and start shutting everything down to start again that you come across the message that says something like "tap here to continue" Or whatever it says. I've never read what it says, I was too busy trying to think of even ruder adjectives. I used to have hair once.

HINT: When conencting USB the cable to the Zumo, leave the cable attached at the Zumo end and unplu / plug in the cable at the USB port end. The reason for this is not becasue of some peculiar handshaking behaviour or that it may not work if you do it the other way round - its purely to save wear and tear on the XT2. I have loads of USB connections available to the computer. Only one to the XT2.

thanks for the hints

- i dont have any other progs running
- i am connected as admin to the system
- energy safemode is off
- suggested map folder is C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Maps (where all the others are)
- zumo XT is connected
- NTU 2026.20 is available on the zumo
- start of garmin express
-> card details
-> options
-> install at computer

it starts, works, lasts 10 seconds up to 35,2%, stops

I am curious about this comment. I indicates that you don't normally run your PC as admin. I don't, and am convinced that it has caused problems with both Basecamp and Garmin Express. My PC has two users, "Admin" and "Me". The "Me"user has standard privileges. What I came to realize was that installing any Garmin product while logged in as "Admin" was problematic when I tried to use it while logged in as "Me". The same problems existed when logged in as "Me" but using the "Run as administrator" option. What I found was that I had to temporarily elevate the privileges for "Me" to administrator, run the Garmin installation or update, and then change the privileges back to standard. If your user setup is similar, I suggest doing the same. I would uninstall the 2026.20 map while as admin and then reinstall while as your user with privileges elevated to administrator.

I'm slightly confused. The map will be locked to your device, are you saying that having downloaded it successfully as per your OP you now cannot view it on your Zumo?

7.25 is probably a good choice.
With 7.24 there were big problems installing maps on the PC, or in other words, the option was not there at all.
Hence the suggestion to downgrade to 7.23.

If 7.25 now works and you can install maps on your PC again, then that's good news!

nb - You have to install the map to your Zumo before it can be installed onto the computer. Then run Express a second time and the option will be available. It's hard to tell from your description whether or not this is the issue.
