"Unknown Error" when adding a route to a collection
"Unknown Error" when adding a route to a collection
I have a saved route that I just created in the Tread app, but am getting an error when trying to save that route to a specific Collection. Anyone experiencing this and know a fix? I have closed the app and restarted, turned "Collections" off and then back on again, but no luck...

Re: "Unknown Error" when adding a route to a collection
Welcome to the forums @DucatiCOL
I assume that you are trying to do this on the Tread App on your phone or tablet - rather than on the XT2 screen itself ?
I haven't come across that behaviour before.
I don't know. But faced with that situation I would try a few things - and try doing things differently. So the following comments are guesses or suggestion. Its the best I can do without a bit more detail.
You don't save a route into a collection. You can save a route and add it to a collection in two separate steps. Or maybe it is asking you which collection to use when you save the route ?
If it is the latter - you don't have specify a collection - just dismiss it and it will be saved in the 'Unorganised' collection.
Try starting with a new route of just two points. Do the same thing with that - see if you get the same error. The Tread App processes your points and routes as it is being created. Maybe it is having trouble with a badly placed point ?
Try it with your BT connection on the XT2 turned off. See if it is the other device that is causing the error.
If you can tell us exactly what you are doing and how, we can maybe reproduce it and let you know where it is going wrong.

Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Re: "Unknown Error" when adding a route to a collection
Yes this is about moving a saved route from Unorganised to another named Collection. When I select the route and then press the collections button at the bottom of the app, it displays “Unknown Error” as the names of my saved collections.

Re: "Unknown Error" when adding a route to a collection
Most odd.
Will it let you select 'New Collection' and say Done?
Or
If you go to Collections from Favourites, does it show the same Unknown Error. If so, Will it let you delete them ? It seems to think that they are collections.
I'm wondering if it a not-able-to-synch issue. Have you let it synch or forced it to synch ? Both from the app and from the XT2.
I'm still clutching at straws here. I cannot get my app to show unknown error - but I have not set it up to to synch. I did, but then removed it from my phone and XT2 - but my ipad doesn't know that, so I can still use the Tread app on that.
Do you have any odd characters in your collection names ie anything other than letters and digits?

Re: "Unknown Error" when adding a route to a collection
Hi
at first I thought it was because of the special characters in the route name, but at least that doesn't seem to be a major problem.
I tried a route name with : or ' or also `, no matter, I could move names with all 3 characters into a collection
Now I have the idea to try to move the route in the device itself into a collection on the XT2.
By the way, routes are not moved to a collection, but assigned to the collections.
I have had many problems before, but not the problem you mentioned.
So I am no further help

Re: "Unknown Error" when adding a route to a collection
but I still have one question, what does the screen look like when you click on "Collections" in the main menu?

Re: "Unknown Error" when adding a route to a collection
For some reason, the problem has resolved itself for the time being. But this happened previously where I had the issue and then it went away for a little bit. But to answer your question, when I just clicked on the collections button without trying to move any of the routes as previously described, it just displayed as normal. I’m able to go in and view the collections individually, but the issue was with moving the routes.

Re: "Unknown Error" when adding a route to a collection
It's nice that problems sometimes solve themselves (that's certainly in Garmin's interest also
)
Then try assigning the route to a collection directly in the XT2 device, may next time when the issue comes again.

I’m not sure how to do that, will look into it!

Re: "Unknown Error" when adding a route to a collection
It is relatively simple,
here is a small guide to assign routes to collections without Tread App only in zumo XT2.
Please excuse the mix of English and German.
I have German menus myself but I hope the English menus look similar and you can still follow me
01 Touch Explore
02 Touch Collections unorganized
03 Touch upper Right 3 Dots
04 Touch Select and edit
05 Select your Routes
06 Touch upper Collection Icon
07 Optional Touch upper right + Icon Create new Collection
08 Optional Collection Name
09 Select your Collection
10 Well done, routes now in your Collection
