I'm on a road trip with a car... and numerous times over the week, the Zumo has acted as if someone pressed the speed indicator on the lower-left corner, so it goes to the trip-odometer screen. Backing out of that screen only lasts for seconds, before it pops back to the stats screen. The only (temporary) fix I've found for this is to completely hard-reboot the Zumo. This makes things good for... a day? Two days?
Has anyone experienced something like this before? I'm annoyed, but think this will be a tough one for Garmin to diagnose and/or fix. Side note then: If anyone has ever sent their Zumo in for repairs, what kind of $$$ are we talking about?

Re: Zumo phantom touch issue
I have had ghosting happen once on a ride. Several times over the course of a few minutes the screen would change as if an invisible hand was touching it (hence "ghosting"). A reboot fixed it on that ride. I have since used it for several thousand miles, mostly in a car, without recurrence. I feel fortunate considering what you are experiencing. Sorry that I can't help answer your question about getting it fixed.

Good thought. When I spoke with Garmin about this issue they suggested removing the screen protector I was using. I did, although I don't understand why it would become a problem after being problem-free for easily over 10,000 miles.

Re: Zumo phantom touch issue
Wipe the screen. Grease marks from fingers can cause that behaviour. Clean it with a glasses cleaner .
Just normal clean fingers will do this and the bottom corners get quite a lot of finger traffic. Or thumbs.

Re: Zumo phantom touch issue
I do not - but a post further down suggests cleaning it to make sure there isn't grease or something on there. I'll spiff it up and we'll see. I have an 11-hour drive coming up in a couple of weeks, and if it's going to happen again, I'll see it there. My fingers are crossed!

I have a thin generic plastic phone screen protector installed. On my unit it makes no difference.Peobody wrote: Sat Jul 12, 2025 4:02 pmGood thought.
