Re: Latest XT2/Tread software version
Custom POIs:
I sent in a complaint yesterday with some screen shots of how it used to behave with v5.40 and how it behaves now with v6.10 software.
I'ts not just on the map that icons don't appear. If you select Where To->Categories->Custom POIs and then choose one of your POIs it gives the details of the POI and it should show the icon. It does with v5.40 software. It doesn't with v6.10 software
Here showing the same Custom POI on the informtion screen. Software v5.40 on the left, v 6.10 on the right.
When navigating the XT2 pings twice and the banner shows the name. The icon shows on v5.40 but not on v6.10.
And here Showing a TourGuide POI information screen. v5.40 software on left, v6.10 software on right
This screen shot is taken when navigating (simulation). The mp3 sound clip is played and the picture is shown on the screen - for both versions of the software. But only v5.40 shows the icons on the map. Note that there is a green icon (B02), and another white icon (B03) - located at the end of my test route - is also showing another location in the tour guide.

Re: Latest XT2/Tread software version
Am I guessing right that "safety" cameras downloaded as a POI will be hidden and silent in 6.10?
I did noticed that they've changed the name of them to "Garmin red light cameras" in 6.10 in the driver assistance area, even though they still do show speed only cameras.

Just simulated a route and the annunciation is there, but no camera icon.Oop North John wrote: Mon Jun 30, 2025 1:07 pm Am I guessing right that "safety" cameras downloaded as a POI will be hidden and silent in 6.10?

While watching the simulation there was slow traffic and on the theme I have, it showed as a red line down the centre of the road.

Re: Latest XT2/Tread software version
Ive had a reply from Garmin. I didn't mention about the Cameras. They need another test before passing it on to the development team as a bug. So I'll jump through that hoop, and mention that issue at the same time.
I sometimes wonder if satnav companies are being leaned on by the authorities - not to route down country lanes, not to show speed cameras - its illegal to have them turned on in some parts of Europe - reports of police asking to see that they are turned off when people have been stopped. I read that on the internet, so it must be true. I sometimes wonder if my speed, location and identity are relayed back to some central hub. Not that I care about that. They'd have pretty boring speeding data from me.
The red traffic line has appeared a few times - on the XT1 as well. There are a couple of places where you can select traffic info. I think both have to be on. It doesn't show up all of the time, but I'm not always certain that I have it turned on. I reset my XT2 to factory startup condition so many times.....

Re: Latest XT2/Tread software version
Big Brother is already watching you through your phone, why else can Google Maps etc show where they think there's traffic jams? And as most places label them as "safety" cameras rather than "revenue generators" it is only logical that they alert you to where there's a higher danger location to keep the road users saferjfheath wrote: Tue Jul 01, 2025 6:17 am I sometimes wonder if satnav companies are being leaned on by the authorities - not to route down country lanes, not to show speed cameras - its illegal to have them turned on in some parts of Europe - reports of police asking to see that they are turned off when people have been stopped. Hopefully there's too much data for them to pinpoint any specific indiscretions

Re: Latest XT2/Tread software version
They asked for another test to be carried out - ridiculous to suggest that my old POI files are out of date (which is what he wanted to eliminate), but I recreated some POIs - especially since my original test files broke the rules and had 3 types of icon 36x36, 48x48 and 24x24. All of them work on the XT1 and on earlier versions of software on the XT2 - but they have updated the POI information pages, and assigned them as being applicable to the XT2, so I thought that I'd better make all icons 24x24 - because the instructions say that they wont work otherwise. Exactly the same results. Works fine on the XT1. Not on the XT2 v6.10.
5.40 was a bit iffy as well - the points displayed, but not always. Often once the perimeter of the first one had been breached, it popped up on the screen along with any others nearby. On the XT1, no simulated travel was needed, just scroll around the map and they were plotted. But one the XT1 Up ahead places has to be ticked. I assume that it would be the same with the XT2 - but since they are not showing up anyway, it is hard to know.
Anyway - I told them that the results are the same as before - ie no icons showing. I include the POI file and a test route so that they could simulate it and watch the behviour. And some screen shots.

I also mentioned that a friend was experiencing a similar problem with Speed camera POI files. Icons were not showing on the screen. I don't pass many speed cameras (north Yorkshire do not have fixed speed cameras, they have mobile camera vans) so was unable to collect any evidence on that to confirm but they have thier own POI files so it seems likely that they fall into the same POI category.
Anyone interested - I'll send you a copy.

Re: Latest XT2/Tread software version
One useful thing i found today, on 5.40 currently, and on a route, is that if you select the long bar at the top, and one option is to select the icon at the top left to show the route on the map, but today's find was that strolling down the data shows any traffic ahead. It goes past waypoints to the end with this data. Much easier for me than selecting the traffic icon and zooming in and then selecting the incident to display the data. Or, having only the next problem showing in the box at the right-hand side of the screen if you select traffic.

Re: Latest XT2/Tread software version
Ah - I had come across that feature the other day. But I had not noticed the effect on traffic. That does away with my observation that it only displays traffic up to the next Via Point. I must have stopped waiting for it to update too soon.Oop North John wrote: Fri Jul 04, 2025 6:55 pm One useful thing i found today, on 5.40 currently, and on a route, is that if you select the long bar at the top, and one option is to select the icon at the top left to show the route on the map, but today's find was that strolling down the data shows any traffic ahead. Re: Latest XT2/Tread software version
And other useful information in the same pane, that seems to collate data from elsewhere and means less button tapping:
1) Shows you via points (don't know about shaping as I don't use them) and you can effectively skip one by selecting the "go" green tab, and it then goes to it next and onto the end of your route.
I'm not so certain on the ones below as I'd have to try a simulated route to be certain of this as tying to count the units and not hit anything was taxing my brain!
2) Shows what avoidance's you have, and can update them. At the top, so not always obvious it's there as I needed to scroll up to see it.
3) Shows the routing calculation, eg faster. At the top as well
4) I think it effectively segments the distance / time between waypoints so you can see how long / far it is to the next one / one after etc.

Re: Latest XT2/Tread software version
I've just been checking this out on a simulated route.
I have used the 'tap top bar' technique before to get the list of instructions. But the additional info has not been seen or noticed by me before now. I think it is new to the XT2 and maybe to a recent software release - but I cannot be sure about that. Whatever, it is a very useful feature - particularly when it shows up things that are not yet visible on the map.
In the same checking exercise, I noticed a speed camera icon pop up. Briefly. There was another camera a mile further on but that one did not pop up. I had been switching screens checking something else out and it was there when I returned. It didn't show until (i guess) its perimeter had been breached.
Red and amber slow moving traffic was showing on adjacent roads. Non on the route I was simulating though. Probably coincidence. Road closures were showing up on various roads on the map either side of the route.
Did you know that you can speed up the simulator. I tried it a while back, but it didn't seem to do anything. Now it does.
Hidden system menu->Configuration and Settings -> Nav Sim Multiplier. 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 x are available.
It multiplies the simulator speed, so on uk motorways, speed limit 70mph it shows you speeding at 210mph, and entering roundabouts at 90mph.
