XT Cannot calculate route
Hi folks,
new member here so hi.
I have an issue with my XT, where it cannot calculate a route.
The unit is 3 years old but not used a whole lot.
I am heading to France in 2 weeks and have made 10 different days plans in MRA.
I created a simple test route (3 points) for near home (Ireland), and when sent to my XT, I get a 0% when it tries to calculate it.
When I did a hard reset and clear everything, it works. But the next file sent over won't.
It also didn't work after a reset. That's not workable on a trip.
This file is public, https://www.myrouteapp.com/route/open/11453511
With two folks on MRA forum being able to send successfully to their XT's without issue, and calculated instantly.
I have turned off all avoidances, all maps are clicked for Europe, and even tried a different phone, plus XT all up to date.
Really am baffled, as to why it won't calculate such a simple route, unless the XT is reset.
Will try send the files by PC this evening.
Could it be that the phone is not sending the information needed ?
any other thoughts or things to try ?
thanks
Karl.

Re: XT Cannot calculate route
Welcome to the forum Karl.
I'll take a look at your WhatsApp route and try it in my Zumo XT. I'll let you know later today - unless someone else repsonds more quickly.

Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Re: XT Cannot calculate route
Don't have my XT to hand, but have you checked that the CN EU maps are selected? And, do you have an SD card in the XT?

Re: XT Cannot calculate route
Thanks OOP - yes - all maps are checked, and I have a m-sd card in the XT.
A thread i read on here (map data not available - 2023), stated something similar.
that his unit was powered off for a good time (same as me), and the maps possibly got corrupted and he used Explore to remove/re-install the maps.
I don't have or see explore on G-store, but are the maps on the SD card & device and is there a way to erase and re-install them ?
Thx

Re: XT Cannot calculate route
The route from MRA loaded transferred and loaded to the XT OK.
The route consists of a start point, an end point and a single shaping point.
Now with MRA, I suggest that you o not use Export. Use Save Instead. In my experience (I admit a little while ago), MRA would export the first route fine, but the second route would never arrive at the XT. Plus - I don't like putting third party software on my computer that has free access to the hard drive.
So I use Save instead.
You have two options. Version 1.1 or version 1.2
If you use version 1.2 it will not include any shaping points. Your MRA tear drop icon in the middle is a shaping point. It does include the route and via points. So providing the XT never recalculates the route (which is a big assumption), the route will be exactly as you plotted it. If it recalculates, it will probably not go through your shaping point.
If you use version 1.1, you get all of the via points and all of the shaping points.
But the route - well the XT has to calculate that - which is starting to become the norm from Garmin anyway. But whatever it calculates - it will pass through all of the route points that you plotted.
Route points seem to be accurately placed, so that is OK.
MRA always sends a track and you can use the XT to display the route and the track at the same time. So if the route recalculates, the track will become visible (it is normally underneath the route) - so you can always see which roads your MRA route used.
Check the appropriate maps are ticked in Settings->Map & Vehicle->MyMaps.
Make sure that you do not have any other maps that covver the same area selected.
I've attached the gpx file that I created from your MRA route, saved as v1.1 POI, route and track. I placed it on my SD card in the Garmin/Gpx folder. It Imported, loaded and calculated the route perfectly well.
So what are you doing? I wonder if I do the same as you, if mine will fail as well.
I'm using 2026.10 Europe maps

Re: XT Cannot calculate route
The program you use with your computer to update/re-install the CN map maps is Garmin Express, not Explore.karltimber wrote: Tue Jun 17, 2025 10:42 am A thread i read on here (map data not available - 2023), stated something similar.

The "cannot calculate" error might also arise if you try to test your French routes from home in Ireland. The XT calculates from your current location and does not route over water. You'll need to activate simulation mode and pick a start point in France.

I'm using 2026.10 Europe maps
Maps selected = CN EUROPE NTU (FOURSQUARE), TOPO EUROPE CENTRAL, TOPO EAST & WEST, CN EU NTU (PARKOPEDIA), EUROPE DEM, CN EUROPE NTU (NORTH & SOUTH). seems like a lot of duplicates. which to keep ? All maps are 2026.20
Ok, so save your GPX file (on my pc) on the Zumo sd card and import it from there ? will try that this evening.
What I am doing = plan the route on my pc with MRA - then on my android phone - mra app - download gpx1.1, export, open = (opens with) - Garmin drive.
It sends the file. and the zumo receives the file but cannot calculate it.

Re: XT Cannot calculate route
Not trying to make you use TripManager, but out of curiousity I loaded your test route exported as GPX 1.1 (route + track) using TripManager on my XT with the CN 2026.20 Euro map active. Worked flawlessly!
There is one thing I can think of that wasn't mentioned, and that is: Have you set any avoidances in Settings/Navigation? I have only 'Unpaved' set to avoid.

Re: XT Cannot calculate route
Thanks Frank. "Tripmanager" on the XT. can you expand on this. Is this something you installed on your XT ? I have no such item - only Trip Planner.FrankB wrote: Tue Jun 17, 2025 1:13 pm Not trying to make you use TripManager, but out of curiousity I loaded your test route exported as GPX 1.1 (route + track) using TripManager on my XT with the CN 2026.20 Euro map active. My issue is it's not transferring anything over so nothing to work with.
Do you think i have too many maps clicked ? what is the full name on your map ? I don't have "CN 2026.20 Euro".
thanks
Karl.
Re: XT Cannot calculate route
TripManager is a program for Windows, that I created, with help from others, to fix some issues found with the XT. And later on the XT2. See: https://www.zumouserforums.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=3150karltimber wrote: Tue Jun 17, 2025 1:33 pm "Tripmanager" on the XT. can you expand on this. Is this something you installed on your XT ?
Using this program will likely not solve the problem you encounter, I was just curious if my program would stand the test.
Frank
