HI just recieved my Garmin Zumo XT today
Just received the unit today and I am not finding it easy to understand. But I am an old guy who isn't up to date with all the technology. Heck don't even have a smart phone! I do have a mobile with big buttons, which I use for emergencies only, and I phone every 6 months to keep the phone number. Why would I want to speak to anyone whilst I am out!
Yeah I am an old grumpy sod
Just downloaded the software and I will see where it goes from there.

Welcome to the forums, Tony.
You don't have to use your phone - and if you don't want to use it then do not pair it - because it will install Explore and that will cause other issues on the Zumo XT - in spite of what Garmin ask you to do.
It will work perfectly well if you just pair your headset to the XT - so that you can hear instructions - or if you don't want that then you can follow the map on the screen.
When you put your Zumo XT in the cradle, make sure that the latch snaps shut. Try to pull the top of the XT away from the cradle - to make sure that it is locked in securely. Do that every time.

Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Thank you for the info and details. I know my phone won't link up with anything, its that basic, so not worried it won't link. Just slowly downloading the updates which I need of course. Thanks again

Welcome to the forum @TonyBennett. There is lots of good info and helpful folks here, although many of us can get a bit nerdy. The XT is a nice piece of kit but it has some issues, mostly associated with following routes created externally. If your usage will be to simply have it get you to a destination then it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out.
