Something that I have not seen mentioned on this forum is the fact that in 7.17.1.0 you could not disable GE from starting in the background when you started the PC. Unticking the " Always keep Garmin Express running in the background" option fails to disable it. Comments on the garmin.com support forum indicate that this was not fixed in 7.17.2.0, which I did not install. I don't have a sense about how prevalent this problem was so am curious whether it is fixed in 7.17.3.0. It is not referenced in the release notes.

Also, at the moment, direct download of GE from the Garmin Express download website brings down 7.17.2.0. This is a repeat of what happened with 7.17.0.0, which I believe was pulled since 7.17.1.0 was released soon after. I wonder if 7.17.3.0 has been pulled too. Regardless, each misstep like this reduces their street cred.

Not been pulled as I've just downloaded it. Also keep Express running in the background remained deselected, hopefully that issue is now resolved

Hmmm.... I just did the download again and the version of the GarminExpress.exe file I received is 7.17.2.0. Different download sources for different countries perhaps?

Right. My point is that for those of us who download and then install, we can't download 7.17.3.0 at the moment.

V17.3.0. offered as an update and currently installing. I've no devices waiting for updates so I won't be trying it out for a while. I've uinticked the box to keep Express running in the background, closed and restarted it and i thas recognised the setting.

v7.17.1.0 also recognized the setting between Garmin Express sessions but it didn't honor the setting. Garmin Express started in the background whenever the PC was started. Unticking that option did not remove the registry entry that includes it as a startup program.

v7.17.3.0 became available for download a little while ago. It also creates that startup registry entry and does not remove it when you untick the "Always keep...running in background" option. Someone please check an upgrade via Garman Express to see if the behavior is the same.

The registry entry is in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run. Removing this entry or disabling it in the Startup tab of Task Manager will disable GE running in the background on system startup.

Note: This reg key issue may not be affecting you if you install or upgrade GE as a different user than you normally startup/login to your pc as (administrator?).

Finally, and maybe most importantly, 7.17.3 connected to my XT and upgraded the iOverlander POI map. Everything appears to be ok in that regard.

I used Express to upgrad to V7.17.3.0 today. The "run in background" box was unticked prior to, and is still unticked after. It does not run in the background when closed.
