Re: Optimize Order
It focuses on the Via Points and finds a route that visits all of them in an 'optimal' way (eg faster/shorter - I don't know).
It strips out any shaping points that you may have plotted. I think that it keeps the start and end point as they are and shuufles any remaing Via points around. I fiddled with it a long time ago and decided that it wasn't something I would ever find a use for.

Have owned Zumo 550, 660 == Now have Zumo XT2, XT, 595, 590, Headache
Use Basecamp (mainly), MyRouteApp (sometimes), Competent with Tread for XT2, Can use Explore for XT - but it offers nothing that I want !

Re: Optimize Order
Me too. The hardware is pretty darn good. The thinking behind the software that drives is it impressive too, but its implementation is quirky enough to be downright maddening.

Re: Optimize Order
This is the classic "traveling salesman" problem (finding the most efficient route to visit all stops). GPSes have been trying to solve it for many years. If Garmin is to be faulted here, it's for pretending they have solved it.

Re: Optimize Order
I don't understand why you say it is broken. It's algorithm produces what it determined to be the most efficient (optimal) way to visit all of the Via points. You may not agree with the results but that doesn't mean it is broken. What is your expectation?
