Airport locations too dominant on maps
This is a curiosity question in the hopes of finding a way to reduce the dominance of airport locations on the map. When zoomed out, the map contains cities and airports with the many airport names bolder than the city names. That, in conjunction with the airport icon, makes them intrusive. I don't want to disable displaying airports on the map, I'm just wondering if there is a way to give them equivalent significance to other map features.

Re: Airport locations too dominant on maps
You might try experimenting with Options>Display>Symbol Size. The problem is that that control affects ALL symbols.
I don't visit airports enough to need that icon, so I have it turned off (Options>Activity Profile>Map Display Features>Points>Transportation). Search can still find an airport when I do need one.
I do wish we had a way to fine tune the features shown and the font sizes by type. Turn everything off that you can and the map is still cluttered with businesses, baseball fields, apartment complexes and a bunch of totally useless points labelled "unknown". A tiny 8 acre nature preserve might be shown in a large font and a 100 acre metro park will be in a small font. I like to see community names, but checking "Cities" also turns on township names in the same size font as a major metropolitan area. I have no need to see the name of a residential subdivision. Some of the city names are hard to see at some zoom levels because they are nearly the same size as the road names.

Agreed. I hadn't noticed how bad it is until yesterday when zoomed out trying to get some ideas for next long trip. Reducing the symbol size helped with the airport issue but then the oversized font on some street names, parks, and historical sites became more apparent. I will return to Google Maps for inspiration and planning, although I just discovered Bing Maps so will be experimenting with it.

This is what most of the folks in my conversations consider the 'fix' for it. Unless you have a compelling reason to see airports by symbol, just set it to not show them.
