My Zumo XT DIY car mount hack

I wanted to use my Zumo XT for a month long car trip with my wife to Newfoundland this summer, but couldn’t stomach the price of Garmin’s car mount kit. Here’s my solution-

I bought the xt motorcycle mount bracket (the plate the XT mounts to) for about 40% of the complete car kit and found a used Nuvi, including the car mount and power cable for few dollars. The motorcycle mount bracket bolted onto the Nuvi’s mount directly and the Nuvi power cable worked a treat. The entire setup worked about a 9 out of 10 on Newfoundland’s potholed roads - about what the Garmin’s car would have done for 1/2 the price. Plus my wife bonded with the XT, a milestone considering how much she argues with Garmin’s previous generations.
