After transferring some routes and waypoints to my XT I left it on charge overnight.
On checking the XT this morning I found that it had performed a hard reset, gone back to factory settings and all my routes and waypoints had been wiped.
Any ideas why this should happen?
I am going on a big trip in a couple of weeks and am scared this will happen again, I am tempted to use my 595 instead!

I'd keep all my routes and waypoints on the SD card, if you have one fitted, which won't be affected by a hard reset.

Or keep a copy on your mobile phone so you can transfer them from your phone to the XT via the drive app
