Cradle Lock for 660 Mount

Post by kernowing »

I made this simple device to act as a detterent. As seen in the photos it prevents the release button being pressed meaning the Zumo or dust cover cannot be removed from the cradle. It also prevents the GPS from being accidently released while you're travelling. Seems unlikely but I have heard of it happening at Motorway speed :o It obviously would not stop a determined thief but may stop someone taking the unit if you leave it on the bike whilst paying for fuel. (I've heard of that happening as well)

I have seen people use a tie wrap before today in a similar way

The only trouble with that is you need to carry snips with you and tie wraps

What stops someone just lifting the thingy off and then pressing the button?

i bought something like that off of shapeways for a few bucks. it has a little locking tab that makes it a pain to remove and it's pretty hard to see behind the unit. for me its actually easier to pop the unit off than put on or take off the tab at short stops tho.

It's never gonna make it thief proof Alan but when it's clipped in place it should (hopefully) deter someone who's not familiar with the release button. If nothing else, it will stop accidental release from the cradle when on the move.

Keeps mine from falling off the cradle. Easy to remove and put around my wrist while inside a quickie mart. More secure than a cradle lock that a 1" prybar may unlock.

Self-stick zip-tie mounting tab. I saw something similar years ago that someone posted. The finger hole in the boot lace was my idea as it makes it faster to loop securely over cradle and down to the bottom ball socket on my handlebars before snapping the Zumo into the cradle. Tight fit around my wrist, but that's good so it doesn't slip off. The front side has a RBNS HOODS $30. to cut down on sun glare.
