My xt Does not charge..;

Post by TAM340R »

Sorry for my bad English:-)

My problem is in the title .
I did not use the zumo for a while , when trying to charge it on the wall power adapter I do have the brand GARMIN for a short time on the scree then a white line .
The white line shrinks and the device is switching off.
I tried to charge it for 6 hours , , nothing …I tried to charge in my car…same thing

Lithium batteries do not like to be fully discharged and left in that state. If that is what you have done you have possibly killed the battery. I would arrange to send the XT to somewhere where it can be opened and if required have the battery replaced.

When i first received my XT that is exactly the problem I had out of the box.
I contacted Garmin support and they replaced the unit.

Did you buy this new ?
Does it work in the car ? (But does not charge ?)

Check this page about chargers:

https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=D ... ndcharging

And this page of useful links:

https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?produ ... tab=topics

Call Garmin. They should replace it. They have a 2 year warranty.
Make sure you have the serial number ready and that you have the receipt. The serial number is on the back - 9 digits - 3x3

Today, I discovered something really important. I found another way that doesn't work.

This is a long shot, but...

My Zumo XT won't charge when it is turned off. So I set the display intensity to it's lowest level and leave it on the charger (turned on) for a few hours. It charges that way just fine, Don't know what the issue is with it being turn off. I have tried multiple USB adapters and cables including those sold by Garmin for this product. It has done this from the beginning and it is on the latest firmware.

The advice might be to have it replaced under warranty. I did that already. My first one wouldn't charge either. I returned it for a replacement before I understood it might have charged when left on.

The Zumo XT DO NOT(!) CHARGE when be turned off - this was already a fact with the old Zumo 59x series! To be charged, the Zumo XT has to be turned on or in standby-mode (one short press of the power button).

The screen will go off and a message is displayed, that the unit will be charged...
Bye, Robert :)

Unfortunately I left my Zumo XT connected to my bike over a long extended period and it must have completely drained the battery. This is how you carry out CPR on your Zumo……

The battery can be recovered if you have a little bit of electronic/ electrical experience.
If the battery has been left drained for a period of time the Zumo XT will not charge the battery no matter how long you leave it plugged into the charger.
You need to remove the screen, there is a video on YouTube showing you how to do this. Be very careful with the LCD screen ribbon connector. After removing the screen disconnect the battery from its terminal. Now you have to have some form of power supply to inject the battery independently to getting it going again. Setup your power supply with 5V and just under 1A current. Connect the power supply to the red and black connections respectively and hold them on for a while. After around 5 mins removethe power supply from the battery and check the voltage at the battery Black and Red terminal connector points. You want to keep going until it reaches 3.7Volts.

After you reach the 3.7V re-assemble the battery and screen then plug in the USB and hopefully the battery will jump back into life and begin to charge.

Welcome @johnnysneds , and thank you for your contribution.

So if the battery is absolutely dead, will it charge when the XT is mounted in the bike cradle instead of via the USB socket ?

Today, I discovered something really important. I found another way that doesn't work.
