Yorkshire Dales, Waypoints and Routes.

Post by Yorkiebarr »

I have located and classified all the Dales in Yorkshire Dales National Park area. As other people may find this useful, the waypoints and some possible routes are included in the downloadable file below.

The Dales waypoints have been classified as follows:
DWTR - Dale with through road.
DWR+UT - Dale with road requiring U turn to exit (not recommended 2 up on a big bike as some of the dale heads have poor and narrow tracks).
DWNR - Dale with no road. These can be viewed from a road using the waypoints labelled.
VIEW ******, they contain the distance and direction information to view the Dale from that point.

Included in the waypoints but not on the routes is Buttertubs Pass, well worth a detour for anyone visiting the area for the first time. A selection of handy cafes also have waypoints.

Some possible routes are included:
14 Dales - An almost circular route of 95 miles, through some little known areas, 3 to 4 hours.
20 Dales Inner - 150 miles taking in the central dales, 5 to 6 hours.
21 Dales Outer - A loop of 130 miles around the outer dales, 4 to 5 hours.
41 Dales - A double loop of 275 miles around all the dales, 9 to 11 hours.

Thank you for these. We were only saying the other day about a round Britain trip, including the Dales.
Cheers
