Brand new user - Hello

Post by PJZumo590 »

Hello from Scotland!
I've just unboxed a used 590LM. I'm really pleased with the feel, finish and accessories. I just tried to update it but the wifi where I am just now is rubbish and so everything hung. I switched it off and I'll do this when I get home on Monday. Having interrupted the update, the unit seems to no longer have any maps onboard but I think this will be sorted when I've a good wifi service to update through.

Welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy your GPS.

I concur it is better to use a computer when updating - if for no other reason, power. If the battery fails while performing an update - you are totally stuffed.

^This^. 590 batteries aren't known for their longevity even if you have "fixed" them. See here -> viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2. Also, don't make the mistake I did long ago: when using a computer, go to your Settings/Power and select Never in the sections about how long until your computer turns off and Sleeps. Don't want that thing shutting off in the middle of a 4 hr download!

I downloaded my routes into BaseCamp, and updated the Safety Cameras (Speed Cameras / Gift to the Government / or whatever) and this morning the battery was "low".

However as long as it is connected to power (either by mount or by computer it should not be a major issue. He said hopefully!
