Nav6 creates oversized Track File.

Post by Bernie »

After I returned from my last trip, I downloaded the tracks from my Nav6. Instead of the gps creating 1 MG size .GPX files as normally, it created a 43MG file. BaseCamp locks up every time I try to use it to open the file, returning a error saying that there is insufficient memory.
Does anyone know what program I can use to open this file?

you can open gpx files with wordpad or notepad and edit them. They are just lines and lines of text .Its rather tedious but you can search for dates etc and split up the files .Its a while since i did that but you can experiment of course just make sure you have an original backup somewhere.I cant remember how i did it exactlly with the "headers" for each file i created.
there must be an easier way though

I think you can use the filter command from the drop down menu (after you highlight the trac) to reduce the number of points in the track to where basecamp can deal with it.
