Zumo 590 plus 5 - Naming Route Points

I'm still investigating the v4.6.0 (595) software installed on my Zumo 590. At present, I think this is a 595 issue.

Creating a route in Basecamp. All route points have been created in Basecamp 4.7.1

The route has a couple of Waypoints. ie Points that I have created with the Waypoint (Flag) tool.
Most of the remaining points have been created with the Insert Tool and dragged and dropped onto the map.
Some of the points have been made into Via Points, Some into Shaping Points.
All of the route points have been renamed to names that I want to display on the Zumo, and all start with a 2 digit number space then a 3 digit number. (To represent date and mileage from start if you want to know why).

When this route is transferred to the Zumo, only some of the names appear in the format that I have used in Basecamp.
The others are displayed with the name that Basecamp originally gave them.

It appears that any point that I have dropped onto the map that has adopted the name of an existing feature (eg a town name or road name), has reverted to its original name and ignored my new name. Anything that is plotted off road or away from any built in name, it has kept my name.
My own Waypoints keep the name that I have given them.

The 590 allows me change the names on the Zumo itself - I wasn't sure, so I reinstalled the 590 software. Yes it does. The 595 software doesn't.

But the naming on the 590 has the same problem - although I had never noticed it. Clearly it didn't matter to me !

Has anyone else noticed this please ?

(nb I edited this post shortly after posting it - after finding out how the 590 behaves to compare).

OK - here's the answer so far.

You can rename any route point in Basecamp. The names are sent to the Zumo 590 and 595, but they are often ignored.

The new names are accepted in the Zumo IF:
** the route point was a Waypoint created in BC with the flag tool
** the route paint was dragged in using the route tool or the insert tool AND it didn't land on an existing named point or area. It will have been given a generic number (eg 005) or something vague like 'Road'.

The new name is ignored if the point lands on (or near to) an existing named point.

The Zumo has the same map as Basecamp - it must look up the coordinates on the map and use the name that it finds there. There is nothing in the file that is transferred that contains the original route point.
