Re: Planning a route with waypoints

The issue is not Shaping Points vs Waypoints. Waypoints are locations that are prepared and stored ready for use - maybe in a route, maybe not. They contain additional information such as address, phone number, elevation. They can be created in Basecamp using the flag tool, or obtained from the data...

Re: Zumo 595 thoughts after 1500km (1000 mile tour)

Ah - ok. Shaping point are skipped automatically IF you join the plotted route after that shaping point. If you don't it will continue to try to take you back to it. Skipping then removes that point and the Zumo calculates a route to the next plotted point in the route. [edit] The above is what happ...

Re: CN Europe NT 2020.2

Windows machine ? Try running Garmin Express as administrator. Also, i noticed a different in file structure with recent releases. It puts files where you specify and a shortcut where the files used to be stored. Find out where on your system the working maps are located, and install the files there...

Re: Zumo 595 thoughts after 1500km (1000 mile tour)

Thanks for that information about the 595. The 590 has a skip button, but you have to enable it as one of the visible map tools. The answer that they gave you is almost correct, but not quite. Correct is that if you join the plotted magenta line after a shaping point, then the satnav will automatica...

Re: What bike(s) do you ride?

ST1300. Many 2-3 week tours in UK and Europe. Some camping, two-up.
This is my 4th Pan European - and have covered a total of more than 200,000 miles between them. 82K on 2 ST1100s and 120K on ST1300s, including nearly 50K on the present one. Mostly 2-up.

Re: Removing residue from old trips

To clear out everything except trip logs: Delete your favourites from the Zumo screen menus Delete Trips from the trip planner app. Delete Temp.gpx and Current.gpx from the Garmin folder via Windows Explorer. Reboot the Zumo I have sometimes found it necessary to turn it off completely - hold the po...

Re: Memory Card

You are right that the waypoints within a route are transferred along with that route. But I think you are making the same mistake that I did - assuming that Patrick was saying 'Track' when he should have been saying 'Route'. I was wrong. Patrick says that he is creating a Track - not a navigable ro...

Re: Memory Card

Ahh So well wide of the mark then, wasn't I  Ignore the last little lot then - except - I wonder if my last comment in my previous post about Waypoints on memory card also applies to the Zumo 595? I don't know, but it may be worth checking. To display your waypoints on the map, on my 590 the s...

Re: Memory Card

rbentnail: I realise my post was rather lengthy, but sometimes while a short answer may answer the question being asked, it doesn't necessarily answer the underlying problem. For example - I suspected that Patrick's waypoints did not actually form part of his route and that the issues that he was ha...

Re: Memory Card

What is the easiest way to get my waypoints on to the GPS? First of all, I need to be sure that we are talking about the same thing. A 'WayPoint' is not a point on a route. Not necessarily anyway. A WayPoint is a location that already exists in a database of Waypoints (or Points of Interest), or a ...
